I knew JT has been great for the Leafs but this was fascinating to me. Sorry Underhill!!!

JT Leaf version > JT Islanders version.

(And no I don’t care that the Leafs have a much better supporting cast for him there is no space for reason or logic here! Although his age difference has to offset some of that).

He reminds me of Sundin in that he just consistently delivers a point per game while playing a complete game.

A few more seasons and a couple or three Cups with TO should get him into the HOF.

Fiddling around with the skating trackers on NHL.com from possible TDL adds.

Never knew Brandon Tanev was so fast. 92nd percentile in top skating speed. For reference McMann is 79th percentile.

Speed bursts over 20 he is 91st.

Would be an excellent add.

Yup, i mentioned tanev about a month ago, and i believe drex a month prior. The more of us that send texts to tree about i, the better our chances

The Sedins had major awards which helps. JT might be on the borderline right now, but he's playing so well still he could be automatic with a few more seasons.

I didn't even realize he had that much international gold, that's pretty good. I do love a nice Spengler sprinkle.

Watching the two brothers blocking 10 shots each game in playoffs on the PK alone would be fun

3rd round pick plus Holmberg get it done before 4 nations Tre

Frank Vatrano signs the 1st wacky NHL contract in modern day history

9M of his contract is deferred to 2035(!) and then gets paid 900K a year for 10 years.

Leafs should do something like this

The giant amount of talent he has in Toronto, those numbers should be at least a standard deviation more than it is for his time in Toronto.

He was the 2nd highest paid player in the NHL for many years and never delivered league leadings numbers nor did he win any awards. The only award that matters, the Cup, still also sits at 0.

The Tavares contract forced the Leafs to spend more money on it's other star players and eventually crippled the Leafs cap situation. Coupled with terrible playoff results, the Tavares contract began with a joyous beginning and has finished with horrible results. He has one last chance to win a Cup, which would make the signing an eventual success, otherwise, it's an utter failure.

blaming one guy for a whole teams inability to win consistently in the playoffs is a silly notion. No single contract in this league can cause one team to put all their failures on. Calling the results horrible is also a weak man's play. while the lack of playoff success isn't a compliment to this team, calling a team that finishes near the top of their division and league standings consistently year after year is not a "utter" or "horrible" failure

you also make a gimp man's point that because he has so much talent around of course his numbers should be good. yet having that talent around him took him from a 1st line role in NYI to a second line role in TO.

Lastly, the guy who scored the only goal to win this era of Leafs their only playoff round win is the guy you're blaming it all on. You're not that bright are you?

You're immediately butthurt. It's okay.

A UFA signing, in his prime, paying a guy the 2nd most in the league is supposed to be a bigger difference maker, especially in the playoffs. He had enough talent around him to make a bigger difference and yet only has won ONE playoff series. That's abysmal.

Being on the 2nd line is still seeing him play with one of Marner or Nylander and playing on the 1st PP unit. Sorry, no excuses here. In theory, playing on the 2nd line would get him better match-ups which means more points and more results. And yet, no awards, no playoff success and no Stanley Cup.

You can add as many snide insults as you want to your points but it doesn't change reality. Go ahead and have the last word, which will be more of the same terrible points with bad insults but facts are the facts; the Leafs overpaid Tavares and he underdelivered.

The fight he had back in like 2010 when he was an Islander is pretty bad. It’s on hockey fights.com but……he looks tougher here as a Leaf (see link below).

I don’t think many (sans) folks really expect him to fight much if at all but this type of thing is a-ok in my books considering his skill set when it comes to pulling lawnmowers etc.
