The game was on ESPN+, which I don't have access to so was unable to watch. You're trying to use the narrative that I don't watch the games, which continues to be absurd. You post almost every day. It's not difficult to know where the foolishness comes from. You're a master at it. - MJL
OK, you just admitted you didn't watch the game, so how am I foolish? I don't comment on games I don't watch, because that would be foolishness. You're lambasting Torts for something he had no control over, and then you are calling us a fool when you are called out for it. You can't make this up.

Hence why they drafted Luchanko over Buium. I can understand it even though it will hurt to wartch Buium play for the Wild next year. I think Luchanko is going to be a very good player for the Flyers next year also. - jd250
you can think that. logic says otherwise.
i do not even think he makes the team.
so you agree with drafting for need instead of BPA? |

There is no guarantee that Couturier would've won that faceoff. Faceoffs are lost and pucks sometimes are deflected into the net. The Flyers are not 16th, they're 19th in the league and they score under 3 goals a game. Scoring is a definite problem. Their PP is 4th worst in the league. The Flyers continue to have scoring issues, coverage breakdowns and subpar goaltending overall. - MJL
But Couts is the best faceoff player they have, so why wouldn't you put him up against Matthews for defensive zone draws in a tie game in the 3rd period? |

Flyers drat BPA, always have. Confirmed by both Briere and Flahr. They drafted Luchanko over Buium because they think he is better. Luchanko will struggle if he makes the Flyers next season.

Jett is not really lighting up his D+ year on fire but the Flyers will rush the kid b/c they need Centers. He will be a solid 3C for the next decade though. |
|
|

I highly doubt Laughts will be traded. Danny even said that a team will have to overpay b/c of his intangibles. Can't trade culture leaders otherwise the room might fall apart.
Risto is not getting traded b/c they will want a first which I think will be hard to get. - Flyfly
keep in mind who else may also be available. how many better options than RR? |

Luchanko is a faster skating Laughton. Hopefully I am wrong.

No, I wasn't calling you a fool for correcting me about Michkov missing time for an injury that I was unaware of. It was for something else. See if you can figure it out.

I think there are quite a few sexier options. Any pending UFA that plays top 4 minutes would be a better option most likely.

Its interesting in this case because the Flyers have multiple needs at center and defense. In hindsight, I think Briere overrated York, Drysdale and Andrae based on his post draft comments, and maybe the wounds from the Guathier situation played a part as well. But clearly I will admit Buium was the BPA and Briere went with a very good center, but not a player with the same upside as Buium. I'll be honest, Buium in the WJCs was awesome. That saucer pass he made for the OT game winner in the gold medal game was elite. Now I think Luchanko is making the Flyers next year and there will be growing pains, but I think he will be a very, very good center for the Flyers as long as they are patient with him and develop him properly. But right now, I think Buium is going to be a star. |

I have zero doubt. 100% believe they didn't draft Buium is because of his agent.
they did nto want to go down that road.
please define very very good center.
develop him properly lol |

I just told you, Risto and Laughton will be coveted by teams planning to make a deep run in the playoffs. The Flyers should be willing to trade them both and get a decent return this deadline. If they don't I think its time to seriously question Briere on what the hell we are doing here. - jd250
No team is going to covet a mediocre 3rd pair defenseman with a 5M cap hit. If the Flyers are willing to retain salary or take a bad contract back, a few teams might have interest for a depth role.

Which is crazy. Luchanko at best will be a 2nd line center and most likely just another good 3rd line center. And don't take my post to mean they don't have glaring needs at defense, they most certainly do.
Never draft for need in the first round, EVER.

I am just going by what is said by the "pro's" who watch and grade his game.
Nothing indicates he will be a top end center. 2nd line is the top ceiling. Maybe he eclipses that maybe he is the next Laughton (flyers would love that) |

I agree. He loves RPs spunk i guess

York and Andrae haven't been overrated. If anything Andrae is underrated by the Flyers.
You just got done a day or so ago, telling people that they can't say that drafting Luchanko was a mistake because we know about these players for years down the road. Now here you are saying that Buium was the BPA and he is going to be a star.

yes, I think it was 100% the agent and the wounds from Gauthier. And that is ashame because it should never be personal, it should always be about what is best for the franchise. I mean just draft Buium and offer him a chance to burn a year of his ECL and everything should have been fine.
I recall a few years back when Bellichick wanted to trade Brady and ownership stepped in and told him he could not, and instead directed him to trade Jimmy Garoppolo. Billichick took it personally and vindictively moved him to SF for a 2nd round pick instead of to Cleveland for two 1st round picks. This to me was a fireable offense, since he put his own personal feelings ahead of the success of the team.
I think Briere and Jones might have done something similar and if so should have been put on notice at a minimum.
Regarding Luchanko, I think he has the ceiling to be a 2C at least. A good 200 foot player that can score and play in all 3 zones, kill penalties but also play on the PP. Think David Krejci. However the Flyers are still without a 1C and 1D and until they get that, they are going nowhere. They had a chance at a 1D with Buium and passed, possibly for the wrong reasons. |

Couturier didn't take a single defensive zone draw in the game. Tortorella matched up Cates against Matthews all game. It was a matchup situation and Tortorella was using his best defensive center against Matthews.
