Ek reporting the Flyers have offered their 1st pick, Luchanko and Laughton to Vancouver for Pettersson. Would you do it? Where does he get this stuff?

I'm sure Vancouver's GM will tell Danny to f@ck off. Literally in those exact words.

It was a big mistake signing a one dimensional player like Tippett to an 8 year deal. Flyers are going to Flyer.
- MJL

Agree.

I am finding myself agreeing with you more and more now. I am now envious of Mike Grier and the Sharks cause I can see their plan and he is quietly adding some good young players. And I'll be curious how they navigate the TDL to get more pieces.

A bold move I would make, I would try to move Konecny before that NMC kicks in. Could he be used in a way to get Petterson? Vancouver is looking more to compete I believe so would that work in a package?

I am just apathetic at this point because as they try to talk and spin, nothing changes. They are incapable of changing to actually build something.

Early indications all point to the Flyers picking the wrong guy but we've seen plenty of kids shoot the lights in junior/WJC only to crash and burn in the NHL. And there are also the edge cases where kids who weren't putting up big numbers in junior find their wings in the pros when it becomes more about determination and operating within a system than just pure talent. Stranger things have happened.

Still hate the pick tho, just like I hated the Cutter pick.

- Tomahawk

I made this point last week also, there are kids that have been lights out in juniors that were nothing special in the NHL, and vice versa. That is why we can't judge this pick for a few years. I think Jett will make the Flyers next year and then we will see how he has developed. Jett is projected to have more pts/gm this year for Guelph than last year, so he is not having a bad D+1 season considering the team he is on.

Looked like Torts closed the shop & Michkov in the third to salvage a point and a very predictable loss in the OT.

Boeser had a lot of injury concerns and a higher cap hit by percentage during the flat cap era.

Tippett has size speed the occasional highlight goal plus decent cap hit going forward.

Flyers fans see him everyday and internet posting fans do not think the same as actual employed hockey men.

- psuhockey

Boeser has had no health concerns for several seasons now, is coming off a 40-goal campaign, has a decent cap hit, and still nobody has stepped up to grab him.... probably because the Canucks are still holding out for some significant return that will never come. Nobody is gonna give up a top-pair D for him.

We just saw that Kaliyev and Wahlstrom fail to net any trade value at all. We just saw Cole Eiserman surprisingly slide to 20th-overall in the draft. Laine was simply given away.

NHL execs just don't appear to regard those kinds of one-dimensional players as fundamental building blocks anymore. Not when there are no shortage of elite producers who are also elite in many other aspects of the game.

Pettersson is extremely streaky! And if he goes sour under Tocchet he will under the one dimensional no fun guy Torts. His shoot is world-class though.

I am embarresed.

Tomorrow is Ed Snider night and this is the state of the Flyers we have now.

A team that will sit in purgatory unless something changes

They are still in a wildcard hunt with the second worst record in goals against. And very few wins in regulation. A sign of a waterd out NHL because of the Bolshevik salary cap.

That is meaningless.

That is the exact issue.

There is no sense to what is the reality of this team and what needs to be done.

His no trade doesn’t kick in until after next season. He’s the kind of guy most GMs drool over. Much like Bonk, the idea of him is better than the actual production. Tippett + Bonk + 1st would pretty much get the Flyers any available player even some on that are on the fence of availability but Briere isn’t willing to do it.
- psuhockey

I think that is ridiculously wrong. A 25 range goal scorer, who is one dimensional and really not a good hockey player relatively, a decent defense prospect and a 1st round pick doesn't get you any available player. Where are you getting this from? Do you think that gets you JT Miller or Pettersson? Seriously

Right handed defenseman with good size who has been on the Canadian world juniors team two years running. That’s meth to old school hockey guys. Don’t forget that the Flyers were not the only team lining up to overpay in a Ristolainen trade when he had multiple seasons of objectively terrible play in the NHL. Bonk is all promise right now making him even more valuable.
- psuhockey

Again, where are you getting this from? All promise doesn't make him even more valuable. Knowing that he was an NHL player would but that is obviously not the case.

You're right, internet fans do not think the same as actual employed hockey men. The former thinks the player is much better than the latter does. With the possible exception of the Flyers employed hockey men.

I agree. There is no point of even discussing trades. I doubt the Flyers will even trade one real asset. Briere is out of his league. He’s too worried about being taken advantage of to actually get anything done and without any fan pressure he doesn’t have to. He can ride out the “rebuilding” sell for the next few years since the paying fans are eating the marketing bowl of crap that Jones and their press friends are selling.
- psuhockey

I'm quite confident that if Briere could get Pettersson for Tippett, Bonk and a first. He would do that without hesitation.

You said earlier today that Buium was the BPA over Luchanko. Maybe you're unaware that is actually judging the pick. Now you're lowering the bar for Luchanko versus your previous prediction.

There is basically one spot available in the wild card and they're competing with 8 teams for that spot with 5 teams currently ahead of them.

It doesn't and it's not an apples to apples comparison because we know how Krebs has turned out. Either way, that is not proof of your premise. There were also extenuating health issues involved.
