Makar who is in the top 10 in points and does in fact PK you mean?

Marner is 55th in scoring goals in the league, top 10 in points.
Nylander is 4th in scoring goals in the league.

The inability to be happy about having both players on the Leafs is mind numbingly stupid but as they 'consider the source'.

- Cush29

yeah its odd... cant enjoy having both lol

Rantanen is another interesting comp. UFA also. and hes scored 50 and had 2 seasons over 100 points.. Marner has neither

Whenever we sign a gritty veteran for a playoff run they always seem to get injured. Maybe this year will be different.

would be interested to see his stats with and w/o Matthews

the last time AM was out, in 6 games MK had 1 assist in 6 games

AM came back and MK has 7 points in 3 games

- senstroll

saw this...
Leafs Matthew Knies has scored 14 goals in 27 games this season with Auston Matthews in the lineup

makes sense play with elite C and score more.

down side, stats iv seen, Knies does not drive play. more of a passenger. tends to make ?? plays sometimes, takes too many penalties (vs drawing).

still lots of room for him to grow as a power forward though.

a healthy AM is a big differnce for the Leafs.

Rantanen never had Leafs PJ's growing up...that's worth at least 2M/yr for 8yrs for Marner.

ROR got hurt but was healthy for playoffs. Had a good 10 games in the regular season too.

it's all luck at that point for injuries unless players have a track record of being fragile (ex: bad knee, back or shoulder)

Mitch Marner is a top 5 player in the NHL.

The only player in the top 10 in scoring who kills penalties.

Absolutely undeniably ELITE superstar player.

$14M x 8 would be a massive bargain.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Mitch needs to make it work for the team rather than bleed every penny. How much (frank)ing money do you need? He would be LOVED in this market if he took even a little bit less.

I remember him not being able to shoot the puck, was it broken fingers or something?

Many players see themselves as a small business looking to earn as much money as possible, that's why they pay agents 5% of their contract. It's often not about winning or being loved, it's about ego and money pretty often

If every player took league minimum, they'd be loved. And yet nobody does it until they're not worth more than that anymore.

Players don't play to be loved. They play for every possible penny. Because when they get a puck to the teeth or break their neck, being loved won't be paying for their family for generations.

If people want the Leafs players to get lower cap hits, start demanding lower taxes or convince Bettman to change the cap hit system.

Is that before or after you ask millionaires to ask for lower salaries?

I’m all for players getting their bag, at least 20 year olds to early 30s.

Also depends on the player too.

There are definitely certain players and circumstances where I expect players to take pay cuts if they want to be where they are thigh.

JT is one of them.

On a small scale Lorentz probably could have gotten 900K-1M somewhere.

Who said league minimum?

Read the part where I said "even a little bit less".

And....Sidney Crosby.

If you want your team to win, ask them to draft better. It's the only thing that guarantees more talent at a lower cost.

The guy who has made nearly 150 million in career earnings?

He's literally #1 in dollars made the past 20 years. And was in the top 5 in salary per season for every year between 2008-2016.

Lottery picks are the easy picks. It's the depth and the defense that's difficult. Jury is still out on if Woll can play 30 games without breaking something.

And considering they have 0 Cups with those guys, yes indeed, not good enough.

Yes that guy. Ask yourself what Crosby would be worth if he negotiated like the Marners.

That's exactly how he negotiated which is why he's #1 in dollars earned during his time. You think his agent reads to the blind at soup kitchens or is he an real agent?

they could have drafted Pouliot, Ritchie, Provorov, Laine and Tristan Broz and Jack LaFontaine instead

but the point is, 12 mil instead of 14 can leave space for a good player. if the goal is to win ultimately
