It is weird to say on a 5 game win streak....but the Leafs are due for a everything is clicking dominating game while Willy busts his slump with 2 goals

good timing on this article
https://www.nytimes.com/a...s-team-nhl-analysis-2025/

leafs are a curious team, as I mentioned yesterday. not great underlying numbers. but something feels different in the way they play to get those meh stats.

less concerning than in pervious years, where you expect to see the inevitable crash.

they do need to add some depth to help sustain any other injuries that will come.

I also wonder where they would have been last year with Matthews being injured for half the season insetad of his 70 goal self...Had to have added at least 3 wins in comparison

Unfortunately, I'm scared that Woll is going to have an off game tonight. But...

Not what will happen tonight.
But it should be a good test for the Leafs

Hey Gibby:

Who are you predicting will win the game?

What do you think are the keys to victory?

Any trends you are seeing on the Leafs that you want to continue/they need to nip in the bud?

In the last 5 games, the Leafs have been outplayed in 3 of them. The PK has been good - not allowing a goal for 5 consecutive games (0 for 13), and the PP has been moderately ok - good for middle-of-the-pack by NHL standards at 3 for 13.

The Hurricanes have been floundering a bit by their standards, too - but they are outplaying their opposition (save for their last game against Tampa) generally, but have been done in by some pretty weak goaltending - with less than impressive results against Columbus, Pittsburgh and Minnesota. Kochetkov, who I imagine will be in net against us this evening, had a decent showing against Tampa and Florida, but was also in against Minnesota and Columbus - so he's a little hit or miss. In his career he's 3-1 against the Leafs, despite a sub-.900 save percentage and a GAA close to 3.50.

I mean . . .Woll could be the difference but the team has looked more porous lately and I think is due for a bit of an ass kicking to wake up.

Huh. This is new.

If the playoffs started today . . .

Boston @ Washington
Ottawa @ Toronto
Tampa Bay @ Florida
Carolina @ New Jersey

Vancouver @ Vegas
Colorado @ Winnipeg
Dallas @ Minnesota
Edmonton @ Los Angeles

I wouldn't have picked the Rangers falling out. I certainly wouldn't have picked Washington's ascendance either; the second best team in hockey has been really surprising.

I have to admit, I'm not feeling this game either. My spidey sense is activated. I hope I am wrong.

Tampa barely beat the Canes and the Canes are due.
