Dump ins poorly executed. No speed on them or zone entries. Puck hounds & skilled entries just suck.

Starting the season crapping the bed at home & great road warriors was a sign. At home hasn’t changed & on the road is now the same results. Injuries have really hurt to find any traction. The regression is painful with only Hughes out there able to do anything.

In season retool isn’t the worst idea. There isn’t enough good things going on to latch on to. Good thing there is other teams needing big changes to trade with. Either pull the trigger on a big trade(s) or ride out the season if no solid offers.

This will go one of 2 ways…
They somehow turn it around but looking very unlikely or patience & keep sinking & wait til offseason. More likely a big trade before the TDL & more in the offseason.

Allvin and Ruthy made good choices last FA, and this past summer they just completely misjudged the defense.

One version of a retool on the fly: Trade one of Miller or Petey for a good haul (center and defender). Trade for a young top 4 D (Byram). Trade Boeser at TDL.

Then go Vegas model and just load up on talent with picks you've acquired.

On the brighter side we have pieces that can fetch new talent unlike in the past decade. Need to keep picks.

The next steps are moving on & remake the roster & keep only a few key pieces imo. Hughes Hronek Debrusk Sherwood. Other than youngins all others should be available at the right price. D has to be priority.

When the dust settles 3 top 4 D are a must at least 1 top 6 C in the fold whether Petey or Miller or neither if a legit C comes here. Demko gone or not is a big decision. That’s a different can o worms. Build out from the D.

I’m buying into last season was built more on career seasons that just didn’t carry forward to this season. Didn’t expect such a drop off by so many but others have stepped up not enough to offset into this. Playing the system & sticking to staples is at the root of a lot of it. The D the easy stand out before onto Petey Miller Joshua Hog & to a lesser degree Boeser.

On D in theory having 4 trees like Myers Soucy Forbort Desharnais is fine for depth as 5/6/7/8 with maybe one of those 2nd pair. Ideally not Myers. Problem is not having at least 3 legit top 4D.
