It’s down to Dodgers, Padres and Jays. If your goal is more leverage, why not keep the Yankees in the mix. - Canada Cup
Because the jays have been aggressive in persuing Ohtani/Soto and ..according to reports have offered high (highest?) amounts.
So keep the team in that may offer you more money, so you can get more from your team of choice |

Game day, biz-nitches.
Flyers came back to beat the Panthers (I did not see that coming) so tonight is an opportunity to get some further separation.
Probably a good game to snag some tix at 6 pm, for those of you wanting to see it live. |

For all the complaining that people do about Leafs tickets, have you seen the prices for Saturday night's Leafs vs. Habs game in Montreal?
I'm going to be there visiting my daughter - it would cost me $1,000 for the worst 3 tickets at the Bell Centre.
Nope. |

Honestly, the dodgers only have so many roster spots, they cant get everyone.

Going to most live pro sports is no longer something I can really justify. It's pretty outrageous.

unless I get a ticket for free, I don't go either.
I'd rather watch it from the comforts of my own home where I have in/out privileges and no need for security to give me the stinky eye look. |

Yep. I've got two kids in university, one in high school still who will also be going soon. We did a good job saving since they were born with RESPs, but postsecondary education costs ain't what they used to be! |

This. I love a live game, but haven't been in 20 years because I can't justify the expense. Watch from home on the big screen and smoke/drink all I want. I guess I am due to break down and finally go again. But then I think about the hundreds of dollars and how many meteorites that could buy or how many fossil hunting trips that would fund...

Darren Dreger reports...
Klingberg is coming back to the NHL in the next 2 weeks.
The teams in play? Toronto, Ottawa and Edmonton among 5-7 teams.
Klingberg is healthy, he isn't skating on one hip anymore. I would 100% take a chance and try him on the PP. Worth a shot. |

Too much of the Leafs PP is one and done, or none and done. There's no sustained pressure in the slot and near the crease. No goalmouth scrambles, no juicy rebounds with multiple whacks at it, and no pick your poison element. It's telegraphed as (frank). Too many fancy passes, no point threat. It's a Rube Goldbergian contraption that is complicated to look at, but accomplishes nothing.
How is it possible with that much skill on the ice?
Spoiler: coaching

A shot on the PP?!?!?! Never! We just try to pass the puck into the net. |

It's crazy to me that they still march out the same PP1, consistently, every single game. What is the definition of insanity? |

I get the need for a puck moving defenseman and perhaps one who can help on the power play, but I just don't know. Klingberg is one year younger than Ekman-Larsson and in terms of offensive abilities, injuries or not, Klingberg hasn't really been a higher level offensive defenseman since around 2018. So what's left is a guy who isn't _that_ offensively gifted and _is_ defensively a liability. The trade-off isn't worth it in my opinion.
Not to mention we have OEL, who is more physical than I thought he'd be, but he's still prone to some poor positioning around the net and loses more battles than you'd like. We have Rielly who has worse positioning and loses more battles than OEL. We have Timmins - who I get could be replaced - who is also someone who loses more battles than you'd like, but his positioning is typically better than Klingberg's would be.
Then you have Benoit, McCabe, Tanev, Myers and Hakanpaa (if he's ever healthy) to provide some sandpaper.
What is the objective here? Is it to create a defense that is unpleasant to play against or is it to create a defense that is half-easy to play against? If I had my choice, we'd probably have 4 tougher D-men and 2 puck movers in Rielly and OEL.
I guess I don't get why the Leafs would be in on Klingberg.

I expect his will be a very low value "show me" contract, and maybe he has some loyalty to the Leafs for getting an easy payday last year. Hard to look at his production the last few years as he's been dealing with hip issues for years, if I understand correctly. D depth is always a good thing. I'd say very low risk, for a potentially large reward.

He had half a hip to work with for years.
Same as Kane but Kane only played with half a hip for one season.
100#% worth a shot. Takes no cap risk. Only money and the leafs are the richest team so who cares.
I think he will be a good NHLer for a while, he is healthy. |
