Oh 100% Pat. I just still think that even though it's more gimmicky, the one with Team Europe/Young Stars was a lot more competitive. Obviously anybody can win, look at the World Juniors etc. but we're leaving so much talent off the board because of the restrictions. I mean (frank)ing Haakaanpaa is on the Finns. He's a 5/6 on a regular NHL team, not what is supposed to be a super squad.

But I will still watch, because I'm a sucker for international play.

The tournament is missing the highest PPG player in the league, the leading goal scorer in the league, perennial superstars like Pasta/Panarin/Kaprizov, young budding stars like Stutzle/Hutson/Celebrini/Mitchkov/Rossi/Bedard, half the perceived top-10 goalies in the league and a resurgent OV.

That's so much talent just not there. That's just NHL eligible players and scratching the surface.

I'll watch it, but I can still complain that they already had the better template (even keeping Russia out). This is probably the best crop of "European" talent outside of the big nations the NHL has ever had. Kopitar/Draisaitl/Stutzle/Slaf/Rossi/Josi/Protas/Hischier/Ehlers/Lil Zucc/Seider

If their goalie wasn't Merzlikins or whatever, they would be a team that would easily fit in against Finland/Czechia on paper (who knows what the games will bring).
