Sounds like this is a complex three-way deal and I believe Taylor Hall is also involved in the deal going to Carolina from Chicago.

I get this from a Carolina perspective - they got the best player.

I kinda get this from the Avs perspective, they get 2 pieces and some certainty with Necas as a signed player, Hall, an expensive but still a decent depth player, plus a '25 2nd, '26 4th

But WTF is with the Blackhawks? They trade a player, hold on to millions of cap and only get a 3rd out of it? Yeah, maybe they save some cap overall, but still...

Side note - Trades are hard...

But Colorado traded out both their goalies (and got upgrades), and now sent their best winger to get more help at center and depth on the bottom 6 and the blue line.

Avs gave up the best player, but I think they did fairly well.

Have a feeling they did not think they could re-sign Rantanen - ballsy move by them that will likely pay off.

The Canes got Hall. And a 3rd is an overpayment for him. He's terrible. Tries hard I will give him that but he is far from the player he was.
