It’s amazing how this blog is sometimes

Right now, since the new years ball landed:

-we got 14 pts out of a possible 18, and 6-1-2 record (vs some very good teams)

-we have strung together almost 3 straight weeks of solid team defense, where previously we couldn’t stop a nose bleed

-they’ve gotten past all the non sense of Trouba being traded which seemed to last forever

-the effort game to game can’t be questioned save for a period here and there

-they FINALLY have what looks to be a good shutdown pair in Borgen and Miller

-the team seems like it’s happy and unified again which didn’t look to be possible

Yet, all we talk about is how bad Mika is and how Kakko gets assists like crazy AFTER he cried to get the hell out of town because he was scratched due to his inconsistency. News flash!! Borgen has made us a better hockey now, then when Kakko was here and if we give Kaliyev some time, maybe he’ll ease the pain of it all. He’s been pretty good so far. He basically still in training camp mode because he’s barely played

It’s unbelievable how difficult this fan base is to please🤦‍♂️

Is it nice we've strung together some wins and the team seems to have figured something out? Absolutely. But Im a realist. As Ive said before, Im incredibly happy that this team is watchable again, however, I also know this team will not be a threat in the playoffs IF they make it.

To me the PP is still meddling. Not nearly as potent as last year. So if they get that going again, they could be better than last year (on paper). Shesty seems to be getting better too which is the best news out of anything.

Never in a million years did I think this team could win 1-0, 2-1 games last month. Which may be how they have to play now, instead of the run and gun ways of last year.

The top 6 I’ll grant you needs to be better. All of them. If that doesn’t happen the chances are very slim they can do anything. But the good is outweighing the bad finally

This team is almost entirely reliant on Shesty, and it needs to stop. I still think, despite the string of wins, there needs to be some significant changes to the offense.

100% agreed they aren’t a cup contender. Love the fact they are winning games and I would love for them to make the playoffs but Igor aside who can steal a series by himself this team is back to being multiple pieces away. Don’t think they need to tear the team apart and wouldn’t trade Kreider. I want them to make a strong push for Raantanen. The defense needs a lot of work. See how Borgen does until the trade deadline and make a decision. I’m liking Millers game much more lately, so I’m more on the fence of wanting to keep him. I would look to what the devils did. I think this team has played a lot of hockey the last 3 seasons and I get it they are professional athletes but I think the lost in ECF’s has really affected the morale of the team.

Realistically I know this team is better off missing the playoffs and getting a higher pick. I root for them to win when I watch the games in spite of that. They’re behind 5-6 teams for the last wildcard spot and have shown they are capable of being a decent team at best and the worst poop you’ve ever seen at worst. There are bright spots. Mika sucking ass is the most consistent thing this season so that’s what I talk about most

im starting to believe again. Maybe they have to win low scoring affairs now. That’s playoff hockey tho

In the last week they’ve jumped 3 teams already. Plenty of games left. They don’t have much wiggle room in where it gets tricky. Like they had there major slump. But maybe they’ll peak at the right time now. Seeding really doesn’t mean much as we saw last year, just get in

Don't get your hopes up, they are playing respectable hockey but this is basically the same team from last year. Too reliant on Igor and the PP.

You’re also trying to paint the picture that Borgen has magically fixed all 3 pairs when he only plays on 1 pair ……. I’d say that has a lot more to do with the 1-3-1 than Will Borgen …….. (and I like Borgen)

I still have doubts. But it’s nice not to be miserable watching the team play games. But carry on

Maybe it’s the MSG optimum thing lol they’ve played well since half the fan base can’t watch them anymore

Well yea it has lol he settles all the pairs down by settling down miller who was playing with various partners. Urho too

Drury made it happen getting Miller right was probably the best thing that’s come out of the trade is kind of my point. Borgen is a better and less volatile version of Trouba. He’s very good positionally which Miller needs

Def not a contender but their specials have been pretty mediocre this year. Especially the PP. 5v5 offense has been way better but the defense is bottom 3
