Yeah, but I think MLB needs to dial it back a little.
Seems like over the past 10 years, there's been 2-3 minnows in the World Series, and the rest of the time it's just the big market clubs.
To me, that's just a little too skewed in favour of the big market clubs (unless it was the NHL, and then it would be 100% fair). - Atomic Wedgie
For sure its skewed for big market clubs, but we've seen plenty of smaller market teams go on quality runs.. rays, cards, royals, rockies, braves, diamondbacks.
The jays front office has just been poop lately. |

Bullpoop. If the jays had signed Ohtani, soto and sasaki you wouldnt be in here whining about it.
Same if the leafs could build a super team and win a few cups. - Fakepartofme
Dude speak for yourself. Do not put words into my mouth.
I wouldn't want my teams being in a league like that, wouldn't want my team to be the Dodgers.
Much happier with how the NHL works 10 times over.
I have lost a lot of interest in MLB as a whole. All the marketable players are going to the same couple teams, and mostly the Dodgers. It is boring. |

Totally agree on Jays office defecating the bed repeatedly, I also don't put the Jays into the small market category at all - just a terrible managed team really.
One problem is that when those small market clubs go on quality runs it's often a one and done or a couple and done because the players who drastically overperformed vs their salary want the huge $'s and move on to the big players (like the Dodgers).
It's frustrating to see teams do great jobs drafting and developing players to then feel like feeder teams to the big boys is all. |

It is also a team full of players that the average MLB fan has no clue they even existed.
It is either you get the same couple teams and you get to watch the big players or you get a collection of guys on great contracts that you never knew existed. It is a lose lose for me.
I was really getting into baseball the last decade too, I am out unless it is the Jays. |

at least its the Dodgers. Not really a problem unless they make the WS and the Jays did also. it was worse when it was the Yankees and Red sox constantly buying the best players.
its nothing really new. just a new top Dog for the time being

Yeah, they have some work to do to keep fans.
But they have the money so there is no excuse. Pay Vladdy and another big FA.
You had 2 options to kee fans engaged and supporting you....either fire sale or spend spend spend. They made their choice, do not half ass it. |

I have said numerous times on this site in the past that while I recognize that the Leafs could be in the top-2 spenders every year and build a team from free agency consistently - like they were doing under Pat Quinn - that is not healthy for a sport.
Talk to your friends in small markets who followed their teams through the 90s and watched their teams be farm teams for the money teams. They draft the player, grow the player, fall in love with the player and then trade him to a team that can afford him and start all over again. It grows the market in the largest and richest of cities but it doesn't grow the sport significantly outside of those areas.
Baseball is quintessentially American - the attitude of if you have the money you are better than everyone else and should be treated as such.
Don't get me wrong - if you offer me the chance to play in a baseball mecca like LA or New York compared to the average perception of Canada, I have a pretty good idea that NY with it's loud attitude and scented subways or LA and it's nice weather and beautiful fires will win out all the time.
But to the specifics of your point - I want the Leafs to win, and I do lament a little that they can't outspend other teams - but I firmly believe that the health of the sport is better for the hard cap. |

well sure, but they had to wait for their tops targets to move off the board first.
the 1st girl they asked to the prom said no, so they are asking thier backup options to go instead

I always like when teams sign the guy who puts up most of his numbers against them and then wonder why he doesn't put up numbers as good as he used to.
Santander has hit more home runs against the Jays than he has against anyone else in the league - and it's not Skydome - because he only has 6 there and 2 at Sahlen field. He hits well against the Jays in Baltimore.
For the record I sort of like Santander as well, though. He compares pretty evenly to a guy like Teoscar.
