A minute and a half into the game - what the frank was the point of that, other than to have him be able to say he's had a fight this year?
What a waste of time, money and a roster spot. - Atomic Wedgie
I'm 99% sure he looked over at Olivier in the box and said "thank you" with a nod of appreciation.
He'll be forward #14 (ie. primary cheerleader) for the next 4-5 months then it's over. I think as much as Berube likes some muscle he'll be asking Tre to get some muscle this summer that can actually skate/play and contribute beyond just rah rah rah.

Everyone is looking for the next Wilson... He has really carved out a substantial career... even after the injury .. guy is a warrior.

Yeah, Murray should be up. At least when he gets destroyed, he's used to it. Another day in the office for him, not screwing with a kids confidence. - joel878
Laughton comes to mind.
Nelson maybe? But he will be costly and i doubt lou moves him to the leafs - Fakepartofme
Philly sounds like they won't trade Laughton and even if they did it would be overpriced and on TDL day. He also plays more LW than C and is better on the wing.
Nelson is an obvious fit, depends on market value and when and IF Lou even trades him.
Gourde is having a down year, his skating speed is down and it is effecting his production. He has been a mid 3C but maybe a trade bumps him a bit. Kraken don't have much negotiating power with him on the market, he is also injured. Buy low.
ROR is a great fit, a lot of things have to go right for it to work.
Tough to say. Athletic listed Coyle as a candidate. Tre and Sweeney are two big boys who wouldn't be afraid to make a deal with a rival if it betters both clubs.
Colorado was like the leafs last TDL and was desperate for a C and they ended up ignoring all the obvious options and got Middlestadt. It worked out very well for them.

And Wilson was not good in his draft year or really in junior. Unlike a guy like Evander Kane. Players with those skill sets are rare and hard to actually hone. There are a ton of 6'3+ murderers on skates all around hockey's various pro leagues, but guys that can put in the work and learn to skate and get to scoring areas makes the difference.

Rare breed, bit of a unicorn so yep everyone wants one but there just aren't many out there.
I'm not even sure they need a guy who predominately just fights or is there to do so if needed (and obliged), just a few who can (and are fairly good at it) a la McCabe. They have guys who will fight but kinda' suck at it like Domi, Reilly, Lorentz was OK,
Maybe someone like Knies can take on a bit of that responsibility? Or McMann and if Benoit took on a bit of it (like he did in past years) they can probably just do without Reaves.
The Getzlaf, Iggy type of player is the ultimate prize really - can score, is or plays big, hits and can fight. Some of the current Leaf roster already have most of these tools.
That all being said they do need one guy who is feared to some degree if they decide to drop the gloves. I mean we've all seen Iggy or Getzlaf when they were angry / someone took a cheap shot at their teammate and they threw down - they didn't fight a lot but when they did it was all business and opposing teams knew it could happen.
Just my opinion but the Leafs may have what they need already and just need someone like a coach who used to pull lawnmowers all the time to say "Boys I don't want you doing it every game but when it's needed I expect it from you" to some of the roster. Or they need to make a deal for a guy who can/will but it's that ++ if they can find them.
Berube was tough - I mean just look at this fight and he took some serious shots and damage but kept going. Good lord.
I wanted to link the Berube vs Shanny scrap but it won't let me share it on other sites. It's worth a view on youtube though. lol

Lundestrom for Robertson is probably a fair deal, but what does that do for the leafs at the end of the day.
Just another two way tweener up the middle with not much offence to wrestle for minutes with Dewar, Kampf and Holmberg.
They need a middle six centre, someone who can bump up to 2C when needed and ensure Domi is not ever pushed to the middle again above the 3rd line.
Charlie Coyle would check all the boxes. - joel878
I read that rumor this morning.
5.25m cap hit.
Leafs will need to send $$ out for this to happened
Holmberg or Bobbyson + 2nd rnd pick in 2027 for Coyle

It's franking bizarre.
There's a code amongst the worst players on each team to help each other out with meaningless fights so that they can preserve their jobs.
There simply isn't a comparable in any other sport.
Why on earth would Olivier be trying to help Reaves keep his job? Why the frank should he care?

Ways around the cap.
M McCarron 50% retained(450K cap hit) for Kampf plus futures. Creates a lot of cap space and you get a player back that does the same job. Creates 2.1M in space.

I didn't read it quite that way. Reaves has been beggin' for a scrap all year and found no takers. Olivier said I'm your Huckleberry and Reaves gave him the appreciative tip of the hat.
I agree it was useless though. I watched it in the highlights and I think they each threw 20 haymakers ...none of which landed meaningfully.
It was literally like watching two guys simultaneously try to start two lawnmowers that had no gas.
I'm (frank)in' pulling and nothing's happening! (That's what she said ...)

Think it would take more than that unfortunately but it would be worth it. He has a year of term so I don't mind seeing a first or even a piece like Cowan go back with retention (one or the other).
Big centre who can play anywhere with anyone. Matthews, Tavares, Coyle up the middle... Yeah that's a gamechanger.
Boston still owes us from the Rask deal anyways those (frank)s.
