Ways around the cap.
M McCarron 50% retained(450K cap hit) for Kampf plus futures. Creates a lot of cap space and you get a player back that does the same job. Creates 2.1M in space. - Santo_44
for any retention, draft picks will be require me thinks and that's something the Leafs don't have much of. |

On his Agent Provocateur podcast this week, Allan Walsh said, “I am telling you right now, the upper limit of the salary cap next year will be $97 million,” adding it could reach $105 million by 2027-28.

Given the cost of retention in the past they absolutely do. mid round picks within the next 3 drafts. They have those.
If anything is going to stop them from adding this TDL it won't be a 4th or 5th round pick from the 25,26,27 drafts for retaining a M or 2. |

Lou is dumb as (frank) though.
He will hold onto Nelson until the last second if it means moving his 25% playoff chance to 28% chance. |

that's why he maybe available and if Boston is out of a playoff spot.
not saying this will happens the recent Leafs trades with Boston has sucked for the Leafs. |

My preference:
Jenner, Gourde, Nelson, ROR if paying up
Blueger at 1.8m or Lundestrom at 1.6m if going cheap |

You pay twice as much money for Lundestrom than Holmberg, for twice as many goals... Just to watch them fight for air together.
Seems logical. |

Ignoring whatever valued players or picks need to be involved.
With Jarnkrok and Hak in the lineup and off LTIR. You trade Benning and get 100K in cap space.
Kampf/Robbie for Coyle and Brazeu 50% retained(350K cap hit) Again ignoring value and draft picks going either way right now.
waived Reaves. Waived or traded Timmins
Knies-Matthews-Marner
McMann-JT-Nylander
Domi-Coyle-Jarnkrok
Lorentz-Dewar-Brazeau
Patches
Rielly-McCabe
OEL-Tanev
Benoit-Hak
Myers
200K in cap space.
Basically if Tre can get creative with cap retention on some already cheap guys he can add a C with a 5-6M cap hit if he wanted to. |

Ignore 25 goals/60 points last year in favour of pointing out he only has 12 goals this year on the worst Boston team in the last decade in a half.
Also logical. |

Coyle is an excellent fit.
The issue is if two rivals can make a deal that works for both sides thinking they have won for their own teams. It has happened before so lets not rule it out.
Also as we stand today the Bruins playoff chances are not good. |

I'm sure he'll also inflate the price absurdly on Nelson. |

I'm guessing whatever Tavares currently is ailing from might turn into full blown Kucherovitis. |

I really do not think the leafs would do that unless it was an injury that would take up until a few games before playoffs.
