To this day, whenever I'm looking for a hat, I say "Cop's got a hat, I need a hat."

Same here. Not enough people appreciate this show. The irony is that as awesome as this episode was, the head writer wrote it in protest. The network was telling him to write something with broader comedic appeal and some more slapstick elements, so he wrote this episode as a huge, "F-You" - and I think it was one of the top-5 episodes they ever had.

I'm scared to go back and watch them - I'm worried they won't hold up today.

They are still pretty funny, I have the show on my iptv app and they actually have a 24/7 WKRP channel that just plays the episodes over and over again no commercials. It's good for when you can't sleep but don't want to get into anything that you have to actually really pay attention to. lol
That app has a bunch of 24/7 channels - The Survivorman one is great to put me to sleep, the Kenny vs Spenny one is good for a laugh but if you want to talk about a show that wouldn't see the light of day now Kenny vs Spenny is it!

Hey, Matthews had good control over that lacrosse attempt last night, huh. The goalie did a good job getting a shoulder there. But I get he gets a couple or three of those before you know it.

That sounds amazing. I don't usually fall asleep to media, but old WKRP audio would be comforting as wind through the trees.
I could also listen to old Score highlight package loops from when it was Martine Gaillard and...whoever....
My sleeping audio is usually deep brown noise these days

Yeah - I used to have BuzzTV, I think it was, and there was one of those 24/7 channels - and I could just watch the crap out of this show. I thought it stood up marvellously.
There are going to be shows that the current generation struggle with whether it's because of modern ethical changes or because of technology changes - but a lot of those classic shows - WKRP, Soap, Barney Miller and so on - they'll always stand up with our generation at a minimum.

There's some timeless episodes of Cheers. - Zezel
When you move into the 1980s Cheers was probably the show of the decade. The other shows I can think of starting the early 80s and lasting through large parts of the decade . . . Night Court, Mama's Family, Family Ties, Growing Pains may have been later. . . I liked Night Court, but outside of some great one liners - particularly around Dan or Bull - it was often forgettable (other than Markie Post).
The Cosby Show probably qualifies, but it was ironically more wholesome and less funny. It was a lot less funny and a lot more of a feel good show. When was Newhart out? That was an excellent show. It was probably in that same time frame. Newhart had the best TV show ending of any show ever.
