Some quick and dirty observations.

1) Leafs are the new Lightning.

2) Lightning are the new Leafs.

Hear me out.

Marner = Kucherov
Nylander = Guentzel
Matthews = Point
Tavares = Stamkos, but he's gone now, so forget this one.

3) Lightning used to lead the division with the Leafs chasing, now it's reversed.

4) Murray or Hildeby are better than Johansson.

5) Leafs have better depth now, but they need a Cirelli type down the center.

6) Epstein didn't kill himself.

Him vs Andre the Giant in a drinking competition would be great.
- AdamFrench

Andre would kill him.

I knew a guy who could drink a 24 in the morning, pass out for a few hours, drink another 24, and then drink 24 for evening. I saw him drink 8 beer in an hour. He's either sober or dead now, obviously.

Lightning are on the backside of a dynasty. There's nothing Leafy about them, other than they have the quirky distinction of having their dynastic end signaled by losing in the playoffs to the Leafs.

I'd say the Sabres are the new Leafs, and the Leafs are the new Bills, or Atlanta Braves.

Although I also think the Bruins are the Atlanta Braves.

Although I guess if the Bills lose they'll be the Bills also.

Toronto and Buffalo are in the same sports black hole except for the Kawhi year.

And where is Hedman and Vasilevskiy? McD?

Leafs got a long way to go still to be a team that wins 2 Cups.

They're certainly taking advantage of the division having a down year though at the moment. We'll see how long the goaltending keeps them in it.

No, he certainly did not.

Leafs just haven't figured out a way to stick one of their stars in LTIR until, magically, the playoffs begin.

I don't see why so many people female dog about the LTIR.

They read the CBA. They followed the rules. Everybody else can do it.

If anything, the Leafs would be the 1st team in line to spend 100 million on players with an 80 million cap hit if they could. And eventually, they will.

It's harder to get the top and hold it this year. Instead of 4 teams that are over .500, there's now 7. Whoever comes out of the Atlantic will have earned it.

That sounds amazing. I don't usually fall asleep to media, but old WKRP audio would be comforting as wind through the trees.

I could also listen to old Score highlight package loops from when it was Martine Gaillard and...whoever....

My sleeping audio is usually deep brown noise these days

Leafs are tied for 4th in the NHL. The notion that they're only on top of the Atlantic because the rest of the division is having an off year is nothing more than the typical plate of fresh BS from the resident self loathing masochist village idiot.

Instead of disliking his message and arbitrarily dismissing it, it's not like we haven't been here before after 48 games (position is by winning percentage):

2024-25: 5th @ .646 (30-16-2; 62 pts)
2023-24: 12th @ .604 (25-15-8; 58 pts -- last 34: 21-11-2)
2022-23: 4th @ .688 (29-11-8; 66 pts -- last 34: 21-10-3)
2021-22: 5th @ .698 (32-13-3; 67 pts -- last 34: 22-8-4)

I mean the numbers to mete out to a weaker division. I don't care. With the parity in the division, there's also a lot of everyone beating up everyone, so . . points get more dispersed, too.

The real challenge is what comes next. Teams are going to start to ramp it up. That said, the Leafs have stepped up in the past and I see no reason that a team with a few players returning from injury can't actually get better without even adding to the existing group. It's also impressive to note that they did this with a litany of top and core players in and out of the lineup through the start of this year.

If there's one thing I do like about Berube's Leafs, there's a resilience to them and an ability to win close games and not fold. Whether it's the goalie making the ten-bell save or a block or a clear or just good zone entry prevention, there are a number of things that coalesce at various times that I'm liking.

It's not always as much to watch - but I can certainly say that for me it's a lot less frustrating to watch, too.

Good to see Hak heading to practice this morning in the bed making video. Hope that guy can get and stay healthy. Could use his size in the playoffs.

But none of that was the argument. The argument was that the leafs are only on top of the Atlantic because no one else in the Atlantic has shown up.

It's ridiculous to presume other teams have put the leafs where they are. Eeyore rain on anything the leafs do type stuff, which is what the original commentator has been barfing all over this place for almost 20 years.

You've gotten real comfy being the leaf forum fact checker and I generally espect your knowledge, but this is opinion based stuff and does not require your justifications or breakdowns. Your ultimate determination of whether someone is right or wrong is not asked for or needed.

He's also excellent at being unnecessarily defensive and obsessively butthurt as evidenced here as he lashes out at easily one of the best posters on this forum for telling him the truth backed with evidence.
