Sign Cuylle to an extension and make him captain.
In all likelihood they go without a captain next year also. What'd we go 4 years without a captain prior to Trouba?
Let Cuylle get 2 -50+pt seasons under his belt between this year and next year. Kid has all the intangibles you want in a leader and captain, give him the C heading into the 26'-27' season.
I see Shane Doan as a solid comp.

- MeanestOfTimes

Seems like they won’t name a captain, but I’d give it to Trocheck over any other player. Cuylle is definitely worthy of it when he has a few more years under his belt

Doan is a good comparable

Ask yourself do we finally have a shut down pair to go against the big boys in the NHL? Ask yourself has Miller ever looked better? Definitely this season. And then ask yourself why that is? It certainly wasn’t magic that made this happen

It’s ok to hate the trade, I get it. But it has worked wonders for this team. How can you honestly deny that? Haven’t given up a goal at home in like 165 something minutes

And let’s face it, the only reason you don’t like the trade is because you never heard of Will Borgen before Drury traded for him lol none of us did really. But he is just what the doctor ordered and it was at the perfect time (before the season completely spiraled into the abyss)

Miller and Borgen are far from a top shut down pair

Good comparison.
I get the feeling they would give it to one of Laf, Tro or Fox before Cuylle but definitely see a letter in his future.

They’ve literally done for about 3 weeks now.

Be excited!! It’s been awhile since Miller looked good, or at least a top 4 guy

Don’t forget, I’m one of the few on here opposed to trading Miller. I think we should keep him bc he has a high ceiling that hasn’t been reached yet. But would I trust them in the playoffs to be our #1 shutdown pair? I don’t think so.

You make it sound like Borgen was a top pairing defense man though. He couldnt cut it on a Seattle team. The jury is still out on him IMO.

So Kakko can thrive on a new team, Borgen can’t?

I think its fair to say the trade has worked out for everyone involved which is what a trade should be

It’s not magic that made the rangers better defensively once 2025 started. And at the very least Borgen is better the Trouba which is what they needed more then anything in the first place

Maybe he’s reaching it with Borgen now. Isn’t that possible?
He played 23 minutes last night.

Btw, Fox played 20 which is great. To keep him in that area of minutes

My thing with Miller is he needs a new contract, what do you pay him?

Who is out there we could get for that amount? I’m actually curious as to what’s possible.

Left side UFAs, biggest two are Provorov and Chychrun. Then a few lesser guys

Rangers could probably afford Miller at around that number and one of the two I mentioned, along with Borgen and Urho.

Provorov Fox
Miller Borgen
Urho Schneider

Is a very good 1-6 D corp. Its big, mobile and fairly young still

Idk how much room that’s leaves them to retool at forward tho. Like forget JT miller as an example. The cap is going up pretty significantly so I guess they could get someone. But they really need to remake the d corp as first priority and go from there, which is already happening it seems like

I’d be pretty happy with that 6. Curious what the cap hit would be for Provorov. Is he worth more than his current $6.75? Maybe slight increase to $7M but he’s probably not a lock for 1st pair and would slot in more to provide stability to Fox.

Can someone tell me how much cap space will we have in total going into the offseason with all UFA’s on this team gone and with the expected cap to rise?

Provorov has stated publicly that he is open to remain in Columbus and sign a contract.

Plus, I doubt he gets a “slight raise” from 6.75 million to 7. I bet he gets 8 to 9, pending the team and demand. Someone will overpay, even if it is Columbus.

It is interesting seeing reports saying a big reason the miller trade fell apart was Drury wanted Vancouver to retain cap on miller in the deal

That seems crazy for Vancouver to consider doing for that long.

I saw this article today…saying that the rangers were it. No one else is really in on him and I bet partly because of the salary.

https://theprovince.com/s...-miller-trade-speculation

Vancouver is in a tough spot where they may not get much of anything for him other than cap relief dump type stuff. Maybe a first rder and some B prospects

I’m curious what him and Pettersons issues are. It must be some really bad blood going on because miller is too good of a player just get rid of for team morale sake

At $8 mil per season for five more years, understandable.

If Vancouver slides out of contention and Rangers remain in, likelihood of a deal increases in my mind.
