I think what is helping now, and in the postseason hopefully, is the secondary scoring. Getting scoring from the defense like last night for example. 3rd - 4th lines chipping in like they have been. We’re very easy to defend if none of that is going really, like say in the series vs Florida. Because then we have more weapons to defend where the best opponents defenders aren’t swarming Panarin all game long. That’s all generally been the issue. Playoffs are much harder for perimeter guys to score as we know
I feel like if the Rangers get in, we’ll be the team that no one wants to face because we’re deeper then last year and will be peaking at the right time - Slimtj100
But are we deeper than last year? I haven’t really been impressed with any of our top 5 this year. Mika, Kreids, Panarin, Trocheck, and Laf all have underperformed for the most part at this point in the season. Could they find there games absolutely, but I have seen enough from all the above minus Trocheck & Laf to not really have high hopes. Cuyle, and Chytil give me optimism but again it comes down to the defense. They play soft and need major upgrades if they want to be considered serious contenders. Will Borgen is a nice player not going to minimize his play even though some egregious turnovers lately and he’s been very good with Miller who has turned his game totally around. They need a Ryan Lindgren of 2 years ago funny enough.
Idk who said it but I love the idea of going after Roman Josi. Idk what it would take but talk about changing the entire outlook of your team with one player that fills a huge need.
If you have watched a lot of the games lately you know that Igor has kept this team in games they probably have no business winning. It’s awesome he is able to do so, which in turn gives us the opportunity to gain momentum and turn the tide. I just think we are way too reliant on him. Reminds me of Hank years a little but when we had Gaborik. We had a good team but never thought we were serious contenders.
If you’re really honest with yourself about this team you know that we most likely aren’t beating Washington, Florida, Devils, Toronto, and even the Hurricanes in a 7 game series with where things stand right now. |

I'm on the fence on this JT Miller trade or no trade.
If most of us have accepted that the team currently constructed isn't capable of winning the Stanley Cup and the team is going to get made over in the summer then what's the difference if the makeover starts to take place now? Something uncomfortable is going to happen either way.
Clearly Drury was on this path until Trouba threw his hissy fit and all the plans got put off.
Drury is NOT punting on the season, so do the NY Rangers have a better chance to win the cup with Miller in the lineup? Yes there are other variables involved.
Another one, its obvious he wants out, are we convinced or can he be convinced to waive to Carolina? How much of a factor does all that play into all of this? I guess if you don't think they can win the cup even with Miller, then who cares if he goes to Carolina. Or is Carolina involved just to raise the NYR ante?
I think for the right price you take a shot at him. NMC are not insurmountable, you grab him now and have a sit down with Mika and work with him to get him moved over the summer. If they are still able to hold on to Chytil and acquire Miller? Then that means they underpaid to get him. If the goal is to win a cup then....

I dont want Miller, will he make the team better, yes, will he be able to get us to the Cup, NO. We need the players we have now to step up in the Playoffs along with the defense to be solid.
What needs to be done is Mika to Center the third line and Chytil to be a second line center. If the trade happens, Chytil is a goner, they will need the Cap space for Miller.

Bingo bingo bingo. There's no hope of any championship dreaming with our big boys not coming through when it matters most, when it gets to be tight butthole time in the playoffs. Panarin/Mika/Fox < Tkachuk/MacKinnon/Kucherov, etc. etc.
I have seen enough from Panarin to know that he's not magically going to become a player with that "it" factor in the playoffs, which you need from your stars in order to be a cup winner. Ditto Mika, kinda feel the same about Fox too. |

Yeah Im not that high on Panarin in those important games buy I will admit he really tried to play thru it and Trocheck and Laffy did produce so his line did get going. His defensive and back checking play leaves something to be desired.
Mika is another story, he turtles up when the bell rings. If he scored a few goals in the Panthers series, we go onto the finals.
Foxy was hurt so Im not going to piss on him, lets see what he does this year. |

Panarin did score that GWG with a beauty of a deflection in game 3 Vs Carolina last year. Can’t say he didn’t come through in a big moment. I think we really get on Panarin for not producing or is as effective in the playoffs but ya know you gotta give the opposing teams some credit. I really would like Chytil to take Mika’s spot on the PP. I don’t understand why we haven’t entertained that yet. The guy has arguably the best release on the team. |

It’s hard for me to dismiss the last ten games, and even longer - since the new year, and not believe they may be better than last year. Granted it’s taken along time to get there, but we may be playing the best hockey in NHL right now.
Roster wise they’ve basically subtracted -
Trouba, Goodrow, Gus, Wennberg, Roslovic and Kakko
And Added - Carrick, Smith, Borgen, Urho, Kaliyev. Chytil is healthy (hopefully he stays that way).
To me that’s net positive overall. And they still have room to add a player
I get the big guys need to perform better, but the secondary guys and role players like I mentioned before, might be better is where I’m going with this as far as being a deeper team |

I understand your rational but instead of looking at names we need to be mindful of their play on the ice. Nothing about this season is indicative that they are a deeper team. Players get older and every season is different. They look like an aging team honestly. If you want to say they have more depth to the roster based on the fact that the bottom 6 is out performing the top 6 by leaps and bounds I can get around that. But I’m just telling you the top 6 of this team needs a major shakeup. I love Kreids but let’s get real here he’s not a player who should be your LW1 or 2. Mika hasn’t shown me anything that would tell me he should be anywhere near the top 6. We still don’t have a true #1 RW yet again. Just my 2 cents but too many “what ifs” and “questions marks” on this roster for me personally.

What you say is fair. I can't argue with any of it. But, how do you get the player with the "it" factor without trading someone like Chytil or Lafreniere? They're not drafting one. Perrault doesn't fit that profile Do we hope someone like Rantanen this summer or Eichel/McDavid make it to FA in '26? My point is they have to do something uncomfortable.
What would you give Vancouver for Petterssen? I'm not sure he fits the "it" either. |

Rangers need to do whatever needs to be done that if Raantanan makes it to free agency full court press to get him. |

They need 2 crease clearers. Uro and Lindgren would be the obvious places to upgrade there, and before all the wah wah wah, Uro has been fine, but his track record and softer style of play isn’t who I’d feel comfortable going into the postseason with. |

He is still struggling, overthinking it, but have seen gains in his overall game the last three-plus weeks. |

Here is the thing, technically they are deeper. The fourth line is a vast improvement over last year, aided by Carrick and Edstrom. Third line with Cuylle and Kaliyev is possibly better, though jury is out on Kaliyev. The key is Chytil's health. As we saw yesterday and lately, when healthy, he is the most skilled center on the team. |

Im not sure Id want Petterssen either, yes sexy name but I dont think he is the type that can drag your team thru the playoffs, he runs too hot and cold, anytime you are arguing with a team mate and it goes public, Id stay away from those players. |
