McTavish is not being misused. He is getting top 6 ES and PP ice time. RFA's that Verbeek has re-signed include Troy Terry, Trevor Zegras and Jaime Drysdale
- MJL

Troy Terry signed in August right before his arbitration hearing and both Zegras and Drysdale missed the entire preseason because of a hold out and only signed right before the season started.

Those players hitting their prime in two years is not a good thing. It's a bad thing. This team if they're lucky is 5-7 years away. By then, those players will be aging and at the tail end of their prime. Likely overpaid if still here. I don't see any of them late blooming like Konecny.
- MJL

None of them will take the Tk jump, but most likely all will be better, why players have a prime. I get what you are saying on it not being good, but all of them getting better is a good thing and what we should want, even if we believe management will screw it up

They were all signed. It's a negotiation. You're trying to use that as reasoning for why Verbeek would trade McTavish. That doesn't fit and neither does the claim that he is being misused.

I don't see it. They won't likely all take a significant leap. It all points to the inevitable. Capped out bubble playoff team. Status quo for the Flyers.

The step forward will vary, some might regress but typical for a player to improve when they are in their prime.

What management does is a different story

I was completely shocked by that trade. I couldn't understand why Colorado would do that but then figured it was contract related. Canes are taking a gamble but that team is calculated. I figure they know what they'll have to do to re-sign him. You don't make that trade if you're not going to re-sign Rantanen.
- MJL

I think Rantanen will demand 14 mill plus.

Now is he as good as he looks or does having MacKinnon help his stats.

Former top 5 center picks playing fourth line and on the wing is being misused. Just looking up season long toi stats proves nothing. Michkov is also averaging around 16 minutes a game. Do you feel he is being used correctly by Tortorella?

And fighting for every penny on rfas to the point you are willing to hurt their season by making them miss the preseason shows a level of stubbornness far beyond regular negotiating.

There isn't a player in the league close to 14M a year. Rantanen often played on a separate line from McKinnon. He is a true superstar

Of course it does. The larger sample paints the true picture. Farabee was recently played on the 4th line. Does that make him a 4th liner? Of course it doesn't. Michkov doesn't have anything to do with your trade scenario.

Whether Verbeek's tactics are misguided is a different conversation and irrelevant to the trade scenario.

What is Draisaitl going to make next season? Is Rantanen as good as or better than Draisaitl?

Will Rantanen still earn a point a game, is any one on Carolina the same caliber as MacKinnon?

There is no question that Rantanen will remain a point per game player. Even higher. He is not a player that is being carried by McKinnon

Because he is better and knows a team out there will pay him.

Then mcjesus will demand more. As long as the cap goes up the salaries will go up.

Perfect player to take a chance on with the Colorado or Edmonton pick if he is still there IMO.

Briere has pretty much acknowledged he cannot get a 1C in a trade because the price is too high. He has deemed most of his prospect pool off limits. Basically, he seems content to take a flier on a Payton Krebs and hope he turns into a top 6 center. Long odds to say the least. Quite a plan that relies on finding a 1C outside the top 10. Closest this organization got with that theory was Carter and Richards. I would be thrilled if Briere could get that type of prospect.

Rantanen is not better than Draisaitl in my opinion. Of course salaries will go up but you're assuming that Rantanen will get significantly more than McDavid is getting. Maybe he will, maybe he won't. Time will tell

How much different is this from the Guentzel trade? He wasn’t re-signed. They let him walk.
- furio16

Very different. They gave up good pieces to get Rantanen. Nowhere near the level of Guentzel. They gave away Necas and Drury wheas Guentzel it was Bunting and sonme prospects and picks
