If the Flyers wanted to help their cap space they could have traded Konecny instead of resigning him.
I know different times but the last time the Flyers had a bold GM was Paul Holmgren. He saw things were not going the way he thought was right and moved Carter and Richards and I think got pretty good returns. - J35Bacher
I love homer. He’s a great guy, but he had no choice, but to move those guys.. it was amazing what he got for them

Don’t you think they tried to get more? Moving Hall cleared some pathways for them for their young players. - Eklund
At the end of the day they only took on a few hundred K in cap space I believe.
They could have waited though to them guess they thought that was the best they were going to get. |

How would they acquire such a center? The triumvirate has said they are rebuilding while at the same time saying that they will be active in FA once they have money to spend.
The only way they are going to acquire the talent needed to complement em-n-em is through the draft. Last center the flyers signed in FA was kevin fricken hayes -- barely a 2nd line center -- the other class of centers available in July are ones that are past their prime.
This "rebuild" is no different than hextall's retool -- same stuff different day/month/year as fans we are going on year 12/13 of this crap - corduroy
I would be ok with an offer sheet if there was someone out there. I think the new age GM's are more inclined to do that now over the old school guys.
But the guy would need be a fit long term.

Didn’t they trade Scott Walker last year for good pick despite the fact that they were very much in the playoff race…. Even more so than they are this year.?

In order to sign anyone, you need a team with money and a player who’s available…. Kevin Hayes doesn’t play into this at all……

Come on bud. I don’t make up rumors and in general the mods will delete comments like this.. I have broken several flyers trades over the years so this is one of my most connected teams for sure. Let’s just discuss it OK and if it doesn’t happen, it doesn’t happen. Most rumors don’t. Cool? - Eklund
Ek, I'd rather chirp you for your prodigious typos, which at this point have become somewhat of a trademark of yours.

You think he rides his contract out or is replaced after this year.
What do you see happening? |

Why is it you think they ended up dealing Walker? - furio16
Because of his age in the return that they got. It’s all about putting a team together that’s going to peak at the same time. |

There are varying opinions in the organization on that one. He turned into a pretty good teaching coach here which is a shift for him. Is he the coach that takes you to the next level though? |

To be honest, I’m 24 seven trade deadline mode right now so I haven’t even looked at offer sheets yet for next year. It’s honestly hard to do that until July 1 passes and we see where teams are and how close they are the salary cap. Too man ufa signings can make you very vulnerable to offer sheet. |

Well do not agree with your assessment at all.
They dealt him because he was an UFA and they couldn't come to terms on a new deal. They tried. They had no choice but to deal him. It was the smart, simple, easy thing to do.
When do you see this team "peaking"? When/if they peak Sanheim and TK will not be major contributors. |

He did in a way.
But you knew his plan.
I feel like with Hextall, Fletcher and now this cluster (frank) triumptive, they try to play this half way in/half way out approach.
I actually think once Hextall moved Schenn, he should have tried to capitalize on the value of Simmonds, Voracek and Giroux.

He has proven he isn't a coach to get you to the next level. Minimal improvement since he took over. Refuses to fix the PP.
What exactly is the next level for the Flyers? |

People probably overrated the market for Hall are the ones "upset". It was an ok deal. Nothing more nothing less. |

These are the only three that interest me in a way but I think they all could get extended.

Yes, they’ll be major contributors.
Things don’t move that slowly in the NHL.. especially if you have some cap space which they will have. Philadelphia is a place where a majority of players want to come and play. Within the next three years they will peak, I believe. This year they’ve beaten better teams than they beat last year… and been more competitive as well against top teams.

It’s a bit hindsight in my opinion. Getting hot in 2010 and going all the way to the finals was awesome but it also changed expectations around here.. they weren’t bad enough to completely tear it down. And hextall fell in love with prospects. So bringing people in for draft picks and prospects wasn’t happening either…. In my opinion, that’s why they got stuck..
This management group is not playing at halfway. They didn’t expect this team to be as good as they are for sure, but you have to be really careful how you handle that. They are very much open for business, but they aren’t gonna give away players either. They won a lot for Risto because you can’t get a player like him at that price and he’s playing the best hockey of his career right now… it takes a while for defenseman to mature in this league… starting to see that out of drysdale as well
