So, you reiterated the options I laid out which are not highly likely or cost effective. If you are going into UFA you will overpay and lose cost certainty of an elite player while giving up a ton of assets. Or, you could get into a position to make a top 5 pick and have a much better cap hit.

This rebuild relies on threading the needle and a lot of luck.

I agree with you, there is a lot of luck involved, and like a good card player, a good GM has to make the right decisions and moves to improve the odds. Doesn't guarantee success though, a lot of variables involved. The Flyers first and foremost have to build a young core of good NHL players with solid veteran leadership. I think that is what they are trying to do right now, evaluate what they have while also looking for opportunity to add younger prospects. At some point depending on how well these players develop, and this is where the luck comes in, the Flyers will have assets to trade for an elite player. At the same time the Flyers should also have cap space to add a free agent or two to fill in the gaps. This is the best way to build a team that will compete for multiple years. A young core that is augmented with good and hungry veterans year after year.

It's too early to evaluate Briere is all I am saying. Let's start with this question. What did Briere inherit from the dufas Fletcher? Do you think Briere can just start making bold moves with no cap space, bad contracts for players with little to no value and a barren prospect pool?

A lot of not having cap space is of his own doing? He DID NOT have to trade hayes and eat half of the salary for YEARS

He DID NOTE have to Buyout ca and tda - he choose to do so wasting 8.6% of this seasons cap space.

He did not need to sign seeler to a 4 year extension with trade protection

He DID NOTE have to extend rp and gh

He DID NOTE have to resign tk

All of those moves were choices that HE or THEY made --ALl players could have been sent to lehigh valley

Every draft pick is a lottery ticket -- instead of getting as many tickets as possible - gmdb chose to keep the same plugs on the roster and expect different results

Not sure about you but I'm looking for more than for a team to just compete. I want a legit cup contender.
You've said multiple times, including today that the picks the Flyers have aren't going to move the needle. Now here you say they're trying to build a young core. With what? The same picks you say aren't going to move the needle?

add in the 8 yr deal for Tippett as well going into his RFA year- that is not looking like such a great deal as it stands today

Wyatt Johnson
Marco Rossi
Dmitri Voronkov

These are the only three that interest me in a way but I think they all could get extended.

Rossi will be available if he’s asking for too much.

And the team is no better today than when chuckles got fired. He traded players the coach did not like for pennies on the dollar AND had to retain salary for that to happen. He bought out players that he did not have to wasting cap space that could be used to garner assets. He resigned all but one player on expiring contracts while telling us we do not fall in love with our own players. They literally have 4 (19% of the non goalie roster) players that all have the same skill set. 2 of them HE brought in as FA's and the RESIGNED!!!

gmdb is no better at running the team than hextall or chuckles - he may actually be worse

So you Expect Danny to get Results after just 1 year after taking over a team that had no elite talent? NHL Contenders arent built in a day. We all knew going into this season the team may have overachieved last season.

I think the issue most of us have is what is the plan? How do they get the elite talent needed to get into contention. Right now it looks like it is going to UFA which is going to kill the cap situation. If you make picks in top 3-5 you have a very good chance of getting that type of talent and it is cost controlled.

Was Danny part of the prior management team? People thinking he is this outsider coming to the rescue is odd.

Add in the fact that Chuck was a collaborator. Maybe others like Danny had more say than the usual assistant GM.

I expect(ed) that redundant players do not get extensions. I expected players on expiring contracts to get moved for draft picks. I expected that the one player they had that would have garnered interest from a lot of teams not be extended.

I expected that when the head coach tells the fans that the team sucks ass and needs to be torn down to the studs, that is what will happen. Trading our buying out players that the coach does not like is not tearing the team down to the studs. Having 4 players with the same skill set; and not elite skill at that, tells me that the team has not been torn down to the studs.

That is a bad trade for the Flyers, no matter what way you try to sugar coat it. Giving up a 24 year old for 3 months of a UFA center is a bad trade and bad assett management

I was trying to do a quick look but outside Vegas, which of the top teams top players are not drafted within the top 10 for their team.

Honest question because I didn't have time to really look but I am having a hard time thinking off the top of my head.

If the rumors are true about Petterson in Vancouver then shoot your shot.

Konecny
Tippett
Frost
Ristolianen
EDM 1st rounder
Jett
Bonk

I mean if Vancouver wants to stay competitive you can put a package together that helps them in that aspect.

EDIT: Before anyone says something I wasn't meaning every one of those players in one package.
