Yea Zibby could be better. What ever will you go on and on about after that happens - Slimtj100
For sure one of the things I thought about last night is a Zib resurgence by taking the pressure off of him.
After sleeping on it, I’m not as upset as I was last night, don’t think it was the right time for this trade, but we could catch lightning in a bottle here by not only adding Miller, but getting a bounce back from Zib and possibly Cuylle if he’s out with Miller.
Cuylle Miller and another physical gritty player could be a hell of a top line. (Smith and Kaliyev don’t do it for me there, maybe Laf?) |

I don't think we should underestimate the significance of the salary cap news the other day, and how that could have changed the equation here on this deal. Having both Zib and Miller locked up that long for their decline years is terrible, was my first thought. But it's a little less terrible after the cap increase agreement that was announced.
Let's take a step back and look at the big picture: life for fans of big money NHL teams just got a lot better.
Do I trust this organization's fanbase/ownership/management to be able to effectively leverage this new competitive advantage well enough to lead us to glory (just a single cup win in my lifetime, pls)? Not really, no. - t-dawg
The financial part of it is fine and all, the problem is by the time we get to the end of the contract they will be 37/38 years old. What are we getting and for how long? |

So last years team vs this years team. Imo it’s better this year, as of now, on the ice. The problem is they’ve been so bad that every point matters now so the pressure is on
Subtracting
———
Wennberg
Roslovic
Trouba
Goodrow
Kakko
Chytil (he barely played)
Adding
——-
JT Miller
Borgen
Urho
Carrick
Smith
Kaliyev/Berard/whoever
Is an overall upgrade imo - Slimtj100
Unfortunately the majority of the holdovers are not playing as well this year as they were last year.

All we can ask is they try to win. You could root for Buffalo who is forever rebuilding and never good - Slimtj100
Honestly TJ this is such a solid point. Look around the league and look at how long it has taken for teams to rebuild. I think we have been very fortunate to a certain degree that we have been very competitive and in reality have had Stanley cup aspirations on many occasions going back to 2005 coming out of the lock out. We just have been coming up short that’s what s*cks. I’m not going to pretend that we all of a sudden are going to be a Stanley cup Contender because JT Miller is now a Ranger. This team like I mentioned is very flawed defensively. They need an impact defensman that can be a shut down type guy. I think that we can all agree that if we sneak into the playoffs we could be very dangerous and not many teams will want to face the thought of having to beat Igor. Maybe sneaking into the playoffs would be the best thing for them. They seem to play better as the underdogs. |

There you go!
I think this trade was made because the cap goes up and they can afford Zib at 3C where he is less important in the grand scheme of things. Which in turn makes him more valuable. Because I think we’re stuck with him, for lack of a better word, where they need to get the best out of him |

Could they technically send Mika to the AHL if the rangers continually try to trade him and he constantly declines? |

No Mika’s NMC prevents going to AHL

Contract is waiver exempt, he would have to agree with it. Best we could do is scratch him until he says uncle and asks for a trade/waives the NMC. |

Maybe they peak at the right time. They need get in the playoffs tho
To me teams have figured out how to defend the BLT line, and Miller should center Panarin and Laf now. Trocheck I love the guy, but I’m not sure he’s a 1C and maybe why his numbers are down too. |

Pushing the chips in for this year and next.
Again panarin and Kreider gone next summer.
Lindgren and smith this summer. Zib will waive at some point. They’ll free up space to go after a name next summer. They do need to acquire some picks and younger players in the retool after next season |

To me, this isn’t a Buch Kane Kakko etc deal. We ARE a better team bc of this trade. I’m just not sure this season, with the way it’s gone, is the right time for this trade. But after sleeping on it, it could work out for a multitude of reasons, but we still need another LHD.
I also think Mancini will develop into a very good top 4 RHD, but understand once Borgen signing that contract, it was either Schneider or Mancini getting traded. |

Yep the reconstruction is just getting going. Gotta wait 6-12 months to see what the final puzzle could be |

I like putting snarl with snarl and making nasty lines. When players that play that way play together, it elevates all their games. It’s why I think our 4th line is finally having the success they are. All 3 guys play the same way and that’s more important than anything IMO.
Miller plays a gritty tough game, and Cuylle is a hitting/gritty player as well. Put 1 more guy on that line with that mentality, and it becomes a line with identity; they’ll feed off each other. Think pack mentality. |

These last two losses sealed the fate of this trade. Where he’s like ok this group folded again under the pressure. Especially the canes game. That 3rd period was horrific. He had to get miller before it was too late. They needed an alpha in the room, and Miller is, if nothing else, an alpha male lol
The 4 nations thing has lit a fire under GMs asses too where they want to get stuff done before this break happens |

Panarin and Laf need room on the ice and Miller may be able to provide that. |

I also think Millers value will never be this low again. It was too good of an opportunity not to get him. Like someone said there is no way you acquire miller with just Chytill and a 1st/prospect last year. And the cap jump made it easier to take on his salary. |
