They’re close when times are good and everything is going up. They are not good with recessionary predictions at all. - TurdFergeson
I don't think so ..Bettman is uber-conservative at all times. He goes out of his way to suppress optimism when it comes to $$.
He had to announce projected profits (because the agencies were releasing the info) which are about 6.6B. You divide that 50/50 between owners and players and you've got 3.3B into payroll (roughly, b/c there are some offsets for other player benefits).
But, 3.3B divided by 32 teams is roughly 103M ....that's this current year. Revenue won't regress ..it might slow ..but even with slow growth in the past it's grown at about 4% per year.
Sure, another pandemic or massive recession could impact all of that but nobody plans/bargains for that. If it were to happen then the formula changes. This announcement will just allow teams/agents to plan.

It’s going up for sure. But I think they’re not planning in Trump effects on Canadian revenue. The fx rate alone is going to bring those projections down.
Remains to be seen. Not worth arguing over. Just my opinion. |

Will be interesting to see how this plays out in next collective agreement. League will want players to bear the burden of helping low revenue teams keep up with rising cap floor. Players will say big market teams can do more to help out. Will either side want to risk a season when revenues are growing? |

Bruins fans have really turned on Marchand this year. Every tweet I read about him is how he is a poop leader and needs to go. Funny how it works. - Santo_44
The female genitalias in NE have had unending great leaders across a ton of their franchises. They can suck a big old Richard that they are only "ok" this year. |

I think he is the same leader he has always beem...They are just poop. Don't think Marchand handles losing well either. He never has so. - Santo_44
Is Marchand intense? Yes. Can he help lead a team with how he plays? Absolutely.
Is he a good player? Yes.
Do I think he represents what a captain of a team should be? Not in a million years. With all his dumb stuff, he's not the guy you want the other players looking up to.
But that's just me.

Marner’s going get paid! - Canada Cup
Ya, he's negotiating knowing that his buddy, #34, is getting 13.25x4 and then is going to sign a 8 yr deal at a minimum of $17M per year.

He's not the player he used to be. Noticeable this year for sure. He should not be on the four nations team imo.

With all due respect I don't think this means a damn thing. The last thing that is going to effect him potentially leaving is a small business he has in Edmonton. |

I think he represents what the Bruins strive to be each year.
But when things don't go well that identity doesn't work.
So I get why its not working this year. |

Maybe he would still be there, but they probably regretted selecting him in the first confirmed picks. |

Not to be political but honestly it's boiling down to nothing but noise. He's indicating he will NOT be taxing Canadian crude ...the threats become pretty hollow if that's true. And his Tariff/Tax man is saying all we need to do to avoid his threat is do something about the relatively small amounts of Fentanyl we allow into the US.
Our new government will buy some military and spend some money (they already have) on the Border ...Trump will thump his chest in victory ...and we'll move on.
I don't see this impacting hockey revenues in any meaningful way. |

Marchand is past his prime and the decline will be steep and rapid. I'd pass on extending him with any term. Rental for one last kick at the can? Yes. Sign an albatross contract? No.

Boiled down, we probably agree on more than we don't. We just approach the same issues from different angles. My politics tend to piss off both sides at different times. - GalacticStone
YES!!! 1000%, people need to realize that. It literally almost seems like someone is sowing division in the ranks to distract us from what is really going on. Look at how buddy buddy Bush and Obama are. If they can get along, we all should be able to. |

Marner cannot be negotiating on what he thinks matthews will sign in 4 years.
If he/his agent is, then Marner signs a 5 year $12.5m per deal
Tre would be stupid to consider anything close to $17m x 8. Way too much uncertainty in the markets affecting people's pocket books.
Also, in 4 years time Matthews will be 31/32 and probably on the decline....I dont see him getting a huge raise at that time. But we'll see. |

Don't really care if Marchand is or isn't on TC, but he's still a great penalty killing pest even if he's no longer the PPG threat he was in his prime. Aside from Marner, who is going to PK on the wing and do so the way he does? Hagel? He's still going to score 30 goals in a down year. |
