YES!!! 1000%, people need to realize that. It literally almost seems like someone is sowing division in the ranks to distract us from what is really going on. Look at how buddy buddy Bush and Obama are. If they can get along, we all should be able to. - Whipper
We live in an attention economy where we've figured out that indignation, grievance and resentment are very effective ways to capture people's attention and the algorithms are coded to maximize attention capture.
That's why socializing in person can be more valuable than ever.
Thanks for listening, internet hockey boyfriends.

Rumour
Aquilini loves Marner
Enough to move both Miller and Pettersen, in order to have ample cap space
Willing to go 15m, according to my sources 😲 - mr.sir

Bush and Obama disagree on policies...thats no big deal and easy to get along with someone who disagrees with how tax dollars should be spent etc.
Kinda difficult to get along with people who support rapist/sexual assaulters, traitors, who insult vets and people who promote hate and chaos towards others simply because they are different.

Don't really care if Marchand is or isn't on TC, but he's still a great penalty killing pest even if he's no longer the PPG threat he was in his prime. Aside from Marner, who is going to PK on the wing and do so the way he does? Hagel? He's still going to score 30 goals in a down year. - AdamFrench
If the Leafs were ever going to trade for a pure rental Marchand is the guy. |

Id prefer Nelson over Marchand.
But if Marchand doesnt cost a 1st or top prospect, Id be fine with him as well. |

Is Marchand intense? Yes. Can he help lead a team with how he plays? Absolutely.
Is he a good player? Yes.
Do I think he represents what a captain of a team should be? Not in a million years. With all his dumb stuff, he's not the guy you want the other players looking up to.
But that's just me. - Scabeh
It's not just you because I feel the same way & I would never want him in a Leaf jersey. |

An interesting note on the salary cap numbers released by the NHL and NHLPA today -- the $104M upper limit in 2026-27 and $113.5M upper limit in 2027-28 are effectively pencilled in and could theoretically go up.
This is a dark day for the Sabres. They are a team that will suffer from this, they won't be able to keep up with this upper limit and already can't attract FAs. |

I doubt he would ever want to be in one either. You dont spend years laughing and walking all over the leafs and then join them. He'd be forever hated in boston. |

Marner cannot be negotiating on what he thinks matthews will sign in 4 years.
If he/his agent is, then Marner signs a 5 year $12.5m per deal
Tre would be stupid to consider anything close to $17m x 8. Way too much uncertainty in the markets affecting people's pocket books.
Also, in 4 years time Matthews will be 31/32 and probably on the decline....I dont see him getting a huge raise at that time. But we'll see. - Fakepartofme
Fakesy, you're ignoring all the formula's that agents and teams have been using for over a decade. It's exactly how it works.
34 is eligible for an extension in 27' when he's 29 yrs old. His contract will be age 30-37 similar to McKinnon and Draisatl. His 4 yr deal was all about maximizing his max earning yrs. 14-15% of the Cap (similar to McKinnon, Draisatl, etc....) in the summer of 27' is going to equate to about 17M.
It is what it is .. McDavid will be giving up his similar age years (29-37) on his next deal. If he takes a haircut like he was rumoured to do on his last deal (he took 16.7%) .....he'd be getting ~17.5M.
That's the $$-world we're heading into.

LOL ok (see how stupid that looks?).
Or their owner overpays free agents similar to how they've done in the past.
Money usually talks....they'll have $33m in cap space at the end of the season. $15m x 7 for Rantanen.....might be enticing.
Anyway, way too early for predictions |

Ya I suppose so. It depends on what he does over the next 4 years. If he wins a cup and stays around 40 - 45 goals mark each year. I could see $17m.....but no cup I think it comes to $15m or so. But that will also depend on how much others have re-upped for prior to him and what the finalized cap is...maybe he's higher than $17m if McD is $20m per. We will see.
I'd like to see a leafs star not max out every time. |

I said lol okay because you saying one of the best players in the league will decline at 31. "Way too early for predictions" Use your own advice ok?
And Buffalo will have to set an internal cap. Quite a few teams will, early on anyways.
Friedman mentioned today that some owners are worried and complaining that they won't be able to spend near the upper limit. |

Ya, lots to play out still but remember that McDavids 12.5 didn't prevent Matthews from getting 13.25.
% of Cap in the first yr of the deal is the starting point for all of these deals. |
