When I saw this my first thought was Grinder must be thrilled we traded DOC ... the first rounder being an afterthought.

But who is Grinder going to rant about now? I guess it's back to EK.

1st rounder is great. No complaints about this trade.

The only issue I have will be on ice related. Clearing Pettersen and O’Conner should in theory make way for Pickering to be an NHL regular and either give JP his spot back or let some deserving Baby Pens get a shot at the big club but Sullivan is just gonna plug the throw ins here. I’ve seen enough of Danton Heinen in a Pens uniform and he does nothing for me

Fernstrom at times during last year he had a first round grade. A lot of analysis liked the pick for Vancouver from what I am reading. He was ranked their #9 prospect and here is a good write up on him.

https://canucksarmy.com/n...nkings-9-melvin-fernstrom

Maybe he can become a good prospect in our system. Him and Emil Pieniniemi could potentially be good prospects for us in a few years.

Not reading much good about fernstrom. Sounds like he is a slow skater who doesn’t have the highest compete level and loses most 1 on 1 battles, but can find openings and put up some points. See lots of reports comparing him to a slower tomasino.

Dubas needs to stop acquiring prospects that skating is their biggest (frank)ing weakness.

They got a first for these guys, they weren't going to also get a top prospect. Take the extra throw-in prospect, probably he doesn't make it, but you add him to the system and take a chance.

Agreed and heinen, as well Desharnais sounds terrible. Most Vancouver ppl I know say the won the trade just because they got rid of him. Edmonton people said the same when he was playing playoff games for them.

Lol right. It's like he thinks everyone else is over-valuing speed.

Likely EK. Grinder will always complain about someone a lot of people like, and applaud some 4th line plug everyone hates.

Think it’s definitely possible speed is overvalued but guys still have to skate at an acceptable NHL level to be viable lol

This is copied from Pensburg.com. Projected to be a 3rd line guy maybe him and Lucius can become our next 3rd line when Crosby retires.

Agreed. But if half your prospects have skating issues it could be a problem at some point.

Def a little nicer of a write up than the few I saw, but mostly similar on his positives. Every prospect helps though.

As a Canuck fan I can tell you that Heinen is a bottom six forward that can move up and down the lineup if needed. Not going to give you much offence but isn’t going to cost you either.

Desharnais was a huge disappointment. He’s a big, below average dman who had a great playoffs last season with Edmonton. Especially against the Canucks. He obviously caught our GM’s eye. I’m sure the GM was thinking with Foote and Gonchar on staff, they can turn this guy into something. Didn’t happen. Not sure if he has the IQ to be anything but a below average dman. He’s a 7-8 guy.

Thanks for that. Yeah we are pretty familiar with heinen as he played here from 21-23.

Haven’t really watched Desharnais but I work all over western Canada so I’ve heard plenty about him from Edmonton and Van fans.

Personally I think he is doomed because we just got rid of our only competent LD (excluding gryz’ pp capabilities) If he plays with Graves that should help the tank though lol

Looks like San Jose is about to get a 1st for Granlund and Ceci.

What a Karlsson trade for San Jose, got rid of Karlsson, the Penguins 1st round pick was higher than expected, and now they converted one of the cap dumps from the trade into another 1st round pick.

Canuck fan here giving you guys an honest assessment. Heinen is the softest 3/4 liner, doesn't create much offence, and is invisible most nights. Decent in the Dzone. Kinda of shocked he hasn't been scratched more often this year.

Sorry to say but Deshairnais is absolutely horrible. We all wanted him gone. Low IQ, poor decisions, panic dumps, doesn't play as physical as hoped/expected or use his size to his advantage. Most nights we wanted him scratched.

The prospect Fernstrom?? Not on any Nuck fans radar. Doubt he'll ever make it to the show.

BUT Enjoy the first round pick - hopefully it turns into something useful and hopefully we can sign Pettersson.

Any guesses/ideas what MPs salary might be??

We know who heinen is and know he sucks. We don’t care about the roster players. Just the pick

It has the potential to be a great pick. How’s your team’s scouting department?

It would be nice to not add guys with contracts for next year, but it just confirms my theory about Dubas throwing away next season as well. Not to mention, these guys will play over prospects.....'cause Sully.

We know Heinen pretty well, nothing surprises us based on some Canucks fans feedback, he's spot but can play up and down the lineup.

Disappointing about Deshairnais's lack of physical play. I know we arent a very good team, but it'd be nice to have a guy or two that can throw his body around.

Hard to say what Petersson would want, but before the season, some comparables put him at around $5.25-$5.75M/season. He hasnt been as strong this season and the uptick in the cap will make it hard to predict what he goes for. All in all, he's a really solid defenseman. .Hope he does well.

I'm praying Dubas can find a taker for EK. The last few games haven't been great, but he's been playing well.

We are so used to trading our 1st round pick, we are in new terrority since 2012 where we could have two top 20 picks.

Im not a big fan of the lottery ticket nature of 1st round picks. I'd much rather wait on the Penguins pick in case its top 5, but for the Rangers pick, I'd flip it at the draft for young-NHL ready talent. Let a team that overvalues 1st round picks take the gamble.
