I didn't want to weigh in on the whole tariff thing but since it keeps being brought up and I'm in the know being on the local riding associations for both the federal and provincial Conservative parties, here is the truth:

- Canada cannot win a trade war with the US, we lack the manufacturing base in order to make the goods that we import from the US.

- Dollar for dollar tariffs sound great in theory, but only work when the country you're tariffing against can't source materials you're tariffing easier from somewhere else.

- Buying Canadian also sounds very good in theory, but the sad fact is, the US provides us with better quality goods and services, unless you want us to completely jump into the arms of the Communist Chinese who are salivating over this.

- Trade deals with other countries takes time and requires them ramping up their manufacturing and construction and simply due to shipping costs/logistics, may end up being even more expensive than what we normally would get from the US

- In the short term, this is going to hurt and hurt us badly, and it was completely unnecessary because we knew this was coming and yet we barely did anything to secure our borders and work with the US to try and work something out.

- Trump has both houses of Congress and has the power to push his agenda through, any hopes of us being able to do anything about this is not going to happen until the midterms of 2026 where the public might be tired of his antics, but don't count on it.

- If you want Trump to get rid of the tariffs, then start by bringing back the Port Police and have it under the control of the federal government instead of private interests, the Port of Vancouver is mostly owned and operated by the Communist Chinese government and you know where the fentanyl that Trump is so upset about comes from? China... through our ports that THEY own.
