I am just gonna enjoy the play. I am not expecting this team to make the playoffs. I do not have any expectations with the current Dmen recently acquired. Right now, there are too many unknowns to do anything other than enjoy the current run of good play by this team.

The true answers may come at the trade deadline. Until then

Problem is that not moving Nelson and Palmieri would be doing a monster disservice to the future of this franchise. Doesn't mean they have to blow everything up and become a bare-bones roster, but they need to start stockpiling futures otherwise they're going to be starting from scratch.

He's gotta just hold his nose and move them at the deadline, regardless of where they're at in the standings.

I agree chief. It's not about Lou anymore or the owners wanting another playoff appearance. It's about doing right for the future of the franchise.

I can see Lou adding Jonathon Toews (for no cost other than salary) if Barzal goes on LTIR

I don’t see Lou trading Nelson…..I see him resigning him.

Yeah I know….i just see Lou going with the “anyone can win if you make it in” mantra.

Would the Islanders even be Toews first choice?

I mean they could offer him virtually guaranteed minutes, so it's possible if he's trying to revive his career.

Or they could be his 33rd choice. Who knows

Ha-ha! Figure he would want a more legit Cup contender. This had been a crazy year so anything is possible.

The islanders already used up all of their come back kid stories for the season.

Am I the only one who doesn’t see this season as all that crazy? Are there some that are still under the delusion that this is a Stanley cup contender?

It's true but silly. I could flip a coin 25 times and have it come up heads each time. It may take years, but it could happen.

When is the last time a low seed won the cup in modern hockey? I don't think it's happened in my lifetime.

I don't think so. I recall a bunch of posters here predicting they'd be a bubble team back in October.

I’d imagine Toews would wanna hop on a cup contender, but who knows what his situation is. I bet he can still score, and be PP1. Much like teams have been doing with LTIR, maybe Lou can use some of Barzals “LTIR” salary to sway him for a year or two. 🤷‍♂️

Math never lies. Vegas has the isles 150-1 to win the cup. Sure anything’s possible, but I’m not betting my house on it. Ha

St Louis was in dead last in the league in January when they won in 2019. LAK were the 8 seed when they won their 1st Cup.

I think the only difference is that the isles have more risk with respect to Nelson and Palmieri. Everyone of us wants the isles to get in and who knows…
I just don’t think the risk of losing Nelson and Palmieri for nothing outweighs the reward of getting in. The math isn’t in their favor to have that sort of risk exposure.
That said, if they eek in I’ll be all about it and screaming at the tv drunk

Crazy in terms of the Islanders going on a run lately when they looked dead and with all the injuries. Still do not see this team as a legit threat. When the season started, I figured the team could fight for one of the wild card spots if all went well.

I guess I’m the only one who thinks Nelson is a very good hockey player and wants him to re-sign.

He is a good hockey player. If this team was a contender and ready to contend for a few years, I would agree with you in resigning him. But the team is not and he can help the future.

Sign him in the off season if need be. But sell him at the deadline.

Nelson might be one of those guys who wants to an Islander for life, and I get that. But he might want a Cup more, and it ain’t happening as an Islander this year.

This would be an option schwein. I'm not sure if Nelson would be willing to take a 2- or 3-year deal. This type of deal would buy time for someone like Danny Nelson to develop. We have seen talk Brock wants to go back to Minny.

The islanders need to sell. Nelson and Palms especially. To many times the islanders sit on their hands with UFAs and then get screwed in the end. I’m ready for a fresher look. Younger faster. I would say our backend looks great with those acquisitions. Out with the old in with the new
