The islanders need to sell. Nelson and Palms especially. To many times the islanders sit on their hands with UFAs and then get screwed in the end. I’m ready for a fresher look. Younger faster. I would say our backend looks great with those acquisitions. Out with the old in with the new - kasperrko
This makes sense. Like chief mentioned, it does not have to be a complete tear down, but Nelson and Palms value is high now and Islander should take advantage. Trade them and give a shot to a couple of young forwards in Bridge and see what they can do.

According to a sourced report from @TheRGMedia, #Isles are shopping Noah Dobson and have offered Brock Nelson a three-year extension.

I'm pretty skeptical that some random sports news Twitter account that I've never heard of has the inside track on anything Lou is doing. I wouldn't be surprised if they were shopping Dobson for a guy like Pettersson or maybe Kyrou, as Rosner suggested yesterday or the day before, but I don't think they're just looking to dump him. |

I don’t think trading Dobson is a great idea BUT Im more peeved about the supposed Nelson extension. That would be a completely moronic move. Tripling down on past moronic extensions. |

No idea why Nelson would not want to go somewhere else this year to take a shot at the Cup and he can re-sign in the off-season. It would be beyond dumb for Lou to do this now. Let’s hope it’s not true. |

Yeah I don't like that part at all. I mean they can trade him and still re-sign him in the offseason to a short-term deal if both sides want to keep the gang together.

I have to question a vet like Nelson not wanting to take a shot at the Cup with another team. JT should have also asked out back in the day at the deadline. You are helping yourself and the current team getting good value by trading you. JT would have been a hero doing it. Islanders fans would have understood it. |

One thing I think I've come to accept lately is that I think there is a large percentage of NHL players who view this as a job and winning a Cup isn't necessarily the main goal. He may just want to keep his family on Long Island at this point. He probably has school-age kids and he may not want to uproot that or have to live somewhere else while his family is here.
Still would trade him though |

The family can stay. It’s not a forever separation. Nelson is a fine player, but I do not see the passion from him. I think Barzal cares more about winning. This is the issue with the Islanders. Players and GM too comfortable and not putting a premium on winning. I want Nelson traded so badly now. |

All due respect to Nelson I care more the teams success than his wants. That’s exactly how the teams GM should view things. |

Didn’t think you were just stating it. The only world that resigning Nelson makes any sense is if we were legit Stanley cup contenders. We are not. The old geezer needs to accept that and do what’s right. |

Dobson has had a down year even before injury. I still say sell. I am with chief doesn’t have to be a complete tear down but some guys have over welcomed there stay and need to go. This league is getting faster and stronger we have a bunch of old guys thinking they are still kids |

There was talk at the time that Tavares made some kind of statement about how he didn't want the team that he ended up with to have to give up any assets to get him. Don't know if that's actually legit but it was going around. |

I heard the same. Islanders were going nowhere. Why not take a chance at a Cup? Getting to a Cup is not guaranteed. It’s doubtful Islanders were going to get prime roster players back for JT. Would have been most likely picks and prospects. I'm sure players want to win a Cup, JT had a chance back then by asking out and Nelson has it now. If Nelson thinks the Islanders are his best chance to win a Cup, I do not know what to tell him. |

Sign him in the off season if need be. But sell him at the deadline.
Nelson might be one of those guys who wants to an Islander for life, and I get that. But he might want a Cup more, and it ain’t happening as an Islander this year. - Wildschwein
Selling him at the deadline is what's best for this team. If he wants back in. Sign him to a team friendly deal in the summer. This team needs assets and youth. |

But Cpt. it should be management making that choice, not him. I love that people finally want to stay here but is he going to be playing in 5 years? We need the team strengthened. Losing out on his trade value would be another huge hit to this team.

I agree. I think a player like Nelson in his situation should want a trade and a shot at the Cup this year, but it's up to management to do the right thing. It's on management if he is not moved even if Nelson wants to stay. |

“Lou Lamoriello has been known to pull out of potential deals if it leaks prior. While no specifics of a deal has been leaked, I would imagine he’s not happy the reports of Noah Dobson being shopped is out there.”
This is where Lou pisses me off. You potentially back away from a deal because someone found out...Enough with this BS.

Curious what you guys think Nelson's next contract would look like, if he was offered a three-year extension as rumored? |
