Well than I hope the return is significant. I would absolutely move Palms, but his return is likely to be a couple picks.

I would say returns on both players should start with a first rd pick. Nelson’s value should include a prospect as well. Even if it were just two firsts you do it without even thinking about it. You do that rather than committing term to two players that only have a year or so of productivity left in them. Get younger, cheaper, sign UFA’s with the open cap space. If we keep Nelson and Palmieri due to us not being competitive in the UFA market than we’re putting lipstick on a pig and not fixing the problem.

Signing two players long in the tooth to more term is literally the last thing a middling team should do. Doing that prolongs us being an at best bubble team. It’s committing to what we’ve been for the last few years.

Here’s Servavalli’s take on a potential return for Palms:

I take a 2nd a 4th if that’s the market without even thinking about it. Depends on what else is out there I guess. The flip side is signing him again which is a no to me or worse letting him walk for nothing.

Perfect time to shuffle the deck and try to be better rather than committing to mediocrity at best. Especially with the increase in the cap.

I’ll add we missed an opportunity to do this a few years ago when we missed the playoffs coming out of Covid. It was a great draft, we had assets to trade for picks, and some expiring contracts. Instead we doubled down on this lineup. What success has that bought us the last few years?

We could’ve potentially been competing right now if we’ve done that. Now Lou is considering resigning two players in their 30’s in essence doing exactly what has bought this team no success. Again. Gtfo.

I just do not get the hesitation from some on moving Nelson and Palms. I think it's all about making the playoffs for Lou so he can keep his job.

I’ll say it again. I don’t think Lou is all that concerned with losing his job. The guy will decide when and how he leaves for better or worse.

I know there are reports he will be gone if the team misses the playoffs. We'll see how it plays out.

Moving Palmieri for whatever the market is, is an easy one for me. I get where you're coming from with Nelson.

Both should be traded for the best offer. I've always liked Nelson, but do what's best for the team.

No idea what is so difficult about this. Get good value for both and prove you can sign quality UFA’s with the increased Cap space.

Islanders already tried the keeping the roster thing together long enough.

I don’t agree with it but I strongly think they will continue to do the same thing.

Lou and some Islander fans get attached to these players. Let's not forget the Bailey song.

Forgotten. I just do not like that Islander coaches have to take the heat and it’s never the players moving on.

Sorokin is playing again tonight! I can't blame Roy. The back up goalie to the back up goalie to the back up goalie was terrible.

I understand it. Especially with a big break after this game.

Good point. Lots of time off for Sorokin to rest.

I was thinking the Zamboni driver might have been better than their Bridgeport goalie.
