In all fairness, Trotz' departure wasn't so much a firing by Lou but rather a change in direction because Barry wasn't committed to the team. Lambert was considered by many organizations the next big thing. To this dare, I'm still not sure how bad Lane really was.
I'll also say, the Isles farm has been awful since long before Lou came along. That said, he's done very little to help it - keaner17
This is true keaner. Lou is not at fault what occurred before he got here. I just meant Lou has run the entire show and made the decisions. The scouting and player development has not improved, and the roster has not improved enough.

Still not a good idea to neglect the farm team. The Rangers do not. Islanders need to overhaul the scouting and player development staff. You cannot just focus on the coach and expect the coach to be a miracle worker if the roster is not good enough. Islanders have tried different coaches, but the roster has remained pretty much the same. If Patrick is not good enough, Lou was the one who picked him, and Lou fired Barry and replaced him with Lane. - ses111

No, it is not a good idea. You need balance.

I have been saying this for a long time. I thought for sure this was one of the first things Lou would fix when he got here. I was wrong.

Lou forgot what worked with the Devils. It has to be a similar process with the Islanders. They cannot sigh top UFA's, so they need to draft well and find hidden UFA gems and make smart trades. These things take a lot of time and effort. Barry fell into the Islanders lap and the stars aligned during those ECF runs. Those reams were still flawed, and they had gotten older and lost key pieces that were not replaced. |

100%, Lou wanted Barry to commit, and Barry was unsure as to what he wanted at the time and could not commit to Lou. So, Lou let him go.

Lambert was the hot commodity at the time. Lou acted quickly as to not lose out on a coach. It was a tough spot for Lambert.

I say back to Milbury. |

That is why I thought Lou was a great selection because of his work with the Devils.

Good to see Barry’s Preds playing Bellows instead of an undeserving veteran. Incredible young talent with an amazing shot. |

Oh, I have a feeling he’ll finish all over everyone like he did in NJ and Toronto. |

Islanders are going to (FRANK) things up just enough to avoid a good draft spot. I understand Roy playing Sorokin, but I would be playing Sharek to see if you really
have something legitimate or not. He is Group 6 UFA.
Sorry I am bored.

Islanders have to accept what they are or risk being a mid-team foe the long haul. They need to build through and draft and make smart signing and trades. They had a hall of fame GM and coach and still could not sign quality UFA’s. Even with two trips to the ECF, it did not help much. The Islanders are just not seen as a big-time type of team. |

I have no idea whether this is considered a good draft or not. I don’t think it matters. They still have to trade these guys. |

As crazy as it sounds, I feel like Lou adds at the deadline to try and make the 8th seed. If that happens I’d be at a loss for words. Just my prediction given the circumstances |

Great description of the last few years of Lou here. |
