I guarantee you Lou believes the last Ranger game is an outlier. If they win one of tonight or tomorrow, he's going to be a buyer and will probably look to extend Nelson and Palmieri as well. Hell, there's a better than even chance he'll do that anyway.

Healthy scratching Mayfield the last two games is interesting though, unless he's actually not healthy. He was pretty awful his first game back.

As crazy as it sounds, I feel like Lou adds at the deadline to try and make the 8th seed. If that happens I’d be at a loss for words. Just my prediction given the circumstances

Who would he be getting? Are we talking another third or fourth liner? Or is he going to give away what prospects and draft picks we have. This team is not one player away that is what he fails to see. A blindman can see that. I hope your wrong.

Exactly! Giving up another #1 or good prospect would be incredibly dumb. Let's go with an example the owners are pressuring Lou to make the playoffs, and Lou wants to re-tool. Lou should quit instead of giving up the future.

I think my only hope is he’s waiting for a team to panic buy at the 23rd hour to get some sort of overpayment. But, who knows with Lou. History would say he’s gonna add to attempt a shot at the post season. I could see him launching a prospect and a pick for scoring. It would be a colossal mistake to say the least. Every day that this team stays in tact is another level of head scratching islander moments. These next few days will define his islander tenure.

Isles get fast start, Pelech takes a penalty....isn't this how the last Isles/Rags game started?

Looking at Casey makes me feel like I’m looking at Brock two years into the future if we sign him. Hopefully Lou sees the obvious decision here.

Yep! What other team locks up bottom pair players like this? Hopefully this loss tonight ends any playoff fantasy.

Not sure how Lou could possibly see it any other way.

This team simply is not competitive.
Sell what you can. Let your goalie rest his back.
Ask Lou to step down and find a new direction and culture

I get Barzal is out, but what has Bo done to make a difference? Even Nelson or Lee. Owners have to ask Lou to step down or he is fired, and Sorokin should be rested at this point.

Will define the team's next three to five years in competitive play and development. I think this is even more critical than when JT left. Because when he left the team, and the fans had a rallying cry and something to focus on. While the focus would be on Lou it is not the same impact.

This teams make up does not consist of a player that can carry the weight of this team when it is down or in key situations. Horvat is a piece to the puzzle. He is not the piece. Nelson has clearly struggled lately, though he is still the best forward out there. Lee is a support role player now. Sorokin is being overplayed right now. You can see it in some of the goals he has given up and how he has been overplaying the position. Give the guy a break for a few games.

Even with all the gloom, I do not season the need to break everything down. With the cap rising, and the chance to bring in some assets at the deadline and draft. You could be competitive next year.

Being a basement GM, I would be focusing on bringing in the premiere player. This team needs are a Brady or Matt Tkachuk. Next would be overhauling the lines. If Roy is the coach, I want to know who and what he wants to make this work. How bad was Barzal's injury. Given speed is his game, is he damaged goods for another 7 seven years.

Next, I would evaluate what Marcus Hogberg. Can he be the backup to Sorokin for the next three years. Hard to decide not really knowing what his injury was (thinking it was a broken something). Varly is on the outs. My guess is that he blowout one of his knees. Again, we will not know until the season if over if at all.

There are a lot of questions, Friday, will only bring a small sample of the overall answer.

GM Lou Lamoriello has reportedly started speaking with teams about Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri and potentially others with the trade deadline on Friday. Per eye on isles.

I don’t think eyesonisles is a reputable source but you’d have to think/hope even Lou sees the writing on the wall. The problem is he has lost some leverage due to everyone knowing what he should be doing now. Hope there’s a big market for both players so it doesn’t matter.

The first paragraph addresses the isles problem since the 90s. They have had trouble with acquiring marquee talent. Palffy was drafted, and Turgeon was acquired via trade. After that they tried to make Yashin “the” marquee guy, but, much like Tavares they never flanked him with marquee talent. Snows first move was to trade 3 first round picks essentially for Ryan Smyth who ultimately walked for nothing. We saw 2 months of Okposo/Tavares/Vanek which for a bit was the hottest line in the NHL. Ironically (not really) all 3 walked for absolutely zero return.
My issue with Lou Lamoriello was his allowing Tavares to test the market, and then after losing his most valuable asset for nothing, he was never replaced. When or until the isles have a top line who can rival the leagues elite we can expect the same 8th seed isles.
These next few days are so important for the isles future. The value of trading Nelson, Palmieri, JGP etc far outweigh re signing them. If ownership is too stubborn to rebuild, I think the fans should literally stop going.
