At 34yo, extending Palms on a team that is near the bottom of the conference with such a strong sellers market seems nuts. - keaner17
Agreed. Get some more picks/prospects for Palms as a rental. Then take your chances re-signing him in the summer if he's that great.

Yeah I read the same but when something doesn’t make sense I have to think there’s other reasons. Like you said they’re a bottom of the standings team in a sellers market?? Make it make sense. - kindlyrick
Maybe Lou is afraid he cannot sign UFA's to replace players he trades? Just makes no sense if Nelson is the only move.

“We know how difficult it was for Lou Lamoriello to trade Brock Nelson. It really was. This is probably the Islanders way saying we’re still in this.”
- @PierreVLeBrun on TradeCentre just now talking about the #Isles decision to extend Kyle Palmieri

I mean, Lou did everything he could NOT to trade Brock. 3 years $7.5m AAS? And Brock turned that down?
It's clear that Lou is not trying to do a retool but was simply forced into a trade. Fortunately he got strong return. - keaner17
Yep! This team is toast as long as Lou is in charge and Patrick is nuts if he does not walk if Lou is back. |

Then they are dopes. - ses111
Not dopes. But they just don't know hockey like Lou. They have to rely on him for his hockey judgment.

Question, would you prefer Lou or Drury as your teams gm? One is too loyal and the other will (frank) over his players but moves them to improve the team. |

The do not need to be hockey experts. Look at the standings and look at how this team regressed since the ECF. I'm sure the attendance is not as good either. Lou does not know hockey like he did in the past. |

I'd take Drury in a second.

Lebrun- Hearing that the Islanders have told pending UFA Kyle Palmieri they're not trading him today and focused on working on a contract extension with him over the coming days.
Awful - keaner17
Jesus, makes absolutely zero sense. Lou is out of his mind. |

Malkin and Ledecky cannot do a search for possible GM candidates? They cannot talk to someone like Islander alumni. How did they know to get rid of Garth and hire Lou? |

Fans need to stay away from the building and Malkin and Ledecky will wake up. Most sport owners are not experts. That is an excuse for Malkin and Ledecky.

The place has to be pretty empty already, no?
This is just dumb. Doesn’t he want to win a Cup? If he were to come back, wouldn’t you want a stronger team to come back to? |

I'm not sure. It needs to be record low to get the attention of ownership. These owners like other Islander owners are fine with being little brother to the Rangers and small time. |

I kind of understand that Lou is not interested in a complete teardown rebuild that takes 4 or 5 years. But a retool that can be accomplished in a couple of years ought to be an option. It's disappointing if he doesn't pick up some more picks/prospects for Palmieri who's just a rental anyway. |

Does not need to be a complete teardown. Lou does not have the strength for that anyway. He makes one move, and he is done. If you do not trade Palms, now Palms can get more from Lou or lose him for nothing. Palms is dumb as well not wanting out and trying to a Cup.

If lou isn't willing to move Palms, there's now way he moves 27 or 44. Would take too much effort, and the emotional drain would be exhausting. |
