You forget at the time of the trade, the Flyers were devastated with injuries on the backend and Walker was probably their best defenseman last year. So yes, trading him pretty much cost the Flyers at least a brief playoff appearance last season. Briere inherited the cap space mess Fletcher left him. Recall when Hextall became GM it took him years to clean up the mess Holmgren left him. You can't just snap your fingers and hope cap space magically appears. Next season the Flyers are projected to have $23M in cap space, that's pretty darn good work in only 2 years on the job for Briere. - jd250
No, they were not -- In true Flyer fashion seeler was listed as day-to-day then proceeded to miss time
Who signed Fedotov? Tippet? RP? NS? GH? Who bought out TdA and CA? Who retained 3+M in trading kh? Who took of the peterson contract?
I can tell you the answer is not the guy who set the team on its way to contending for the cup

Here is what I think the plan is. It starts with building the young core. I think the Flyers will go hard after Clarke from LA for their 1D. I think they may also tank enough this season to be able to get their 1C in this draft, which from reports I have heard the Flyers want Hagens from BC. I was at a BC game not too long ago and the Flyers scouts were there in force. I think Andrae was called up to showcase him before the deadline, or the Flyers might be looking to move on from York instead of extending him. I also think the Flyers will move Drysdale in a trade if there is interest. Risto I think will not be traded and will part of the core defense moving forward. As far as the cap space, as Briere has stated the plan is to have the space there when the "right player" becomes available. But they can also use that cap space to sign supporting players around Michkov and the rest of the young core they develop. On free agent I have always liked is Ehlers from the Jets. He will get TK type money, but the Flyers do need LWs. - jd250
Let's say Clarke is a #1 dman. Why on earth would La move him? He plays less than 17 minutes a night. Does that scream #1 dman to you?
If they luck into a top pick then yes maybe they get the #1 center. Had they had the brains they would have put themselves in a position to get that top pick. Clearly, they do not. They love a guy who will go top 3 but full well know they won't be in a spot to get him unless they get "lucky". What a plan.
They do not need supporting players. They need elite level players. They have support players in spades and you can find them every summer. Flyers will also have to overpay these types.
Andrae being showcased. What do you think he will get in a trade? 3rd rd pick? Laughable to say they are showcasing him.
Agree with Risto.
Bottom line is as I said before. You have faith and think they will turn this team inot a cup contender. I do not. |

They are marginal NHL players, but still NHL players. With Tippet and Poehling out also, the Flyers went into the game last night with only 11 forwards. We'll see where SJ, Anaheim and Chicago will be 5 years from now. I guarantee at least two of the 3 franchises will be exactly where they are currently. - jd250

Hopefully Laughton and Risto get traded too. Laughton was pretty awful yesterday.
I do not think the Flyers will finish in the bottom five. Anaheim, Seattle, St Louis, Utah and Pittsburgh would all need to pass them. They are 7 points ahead of Buffalo. So bottom four ain't happening. So hopefully 6-8?
That won't land you a 1D or 1C in my opinion. Maybe they will get some lottery luck. |

I do not buy the BS narrative trading Walker killed their playoff chances.

So you think they’ll move Drysdale if there is interest? Holy (frank). They just traded one of the best prospects in the game to get him…like last night…lol. Now even you are questioning if there would be interest from others?
Cap space should no longer be an issue….its set too rise over 25 million in the next 3 years …by 2027-28 the cap will be at 113 million. - landros 2
Waiting for McDavid is the plan. They will shower him with wining culture motif. Will send Leclaire and Sharp to win him over.
Would really love to see and hear the Flyers pitch for a player like that. |

Briere mentioned he was not available last Friday for a presser because he was out west on a scouting trip. Now who do you think he was scouting? I think it was Clarke from LA. |

I would be open to trading Risto, but he is playing so well right now and with the cap space increase his salary is no longer an issue. He is good value right now and still young enough that I think he can part of the solution here. |

Clarke is 21 years old. It wil take him another 3-4 years before he is at his peak. LA is a good team that wants to compete now. They might trade Clarke for more established roster players and a pick or two. York, a prospect and a 1st round pick night get it done.

The cap space increasing doesn't erase the fact it is a bad contract. Just a poor way to justify it. Use the cap increase to get difference makers. This is the problem. They overpay for bottom roster guys. If you're going to overpay at least do it for top end talent.
Well, you flip flopped once again. He has 2 years left after this season. Do you see the Flyers being legit cup contenders in the next 2 seasons? |

If the plan to attract free agents is the Flyers "play the right way", which means a tight defensive structure where you are required to block shots, and if you make multiple mistakes in the defensive zone, you will be at the end of the bench to watch the game. Not sure this is going to be a selling point to a star player to be treated the same way as a 4th liner.
My frustration with the handling of Michkov, it is very obvious any issues are not effort related. Stapling him to the bench is stupid and recruiting players outside the organization take notice. Drop him to a lower line during a game would have been a better solution.

If he is a true #1 do not see that package getting it down. You will have to overpay for a 22 year old potential #1 d.
Is York really a significant upgrade right now over Clarke? |

Clarke is not available in LA... He is a foundation piece for LA, and tabbed as Doughty 's future replacement...you keep saying the Flyers are going to go hard for him...what proof do you have of this? Please give some kind of proof Clarke is available, as you have been posting the Flyers are getting him for weeks now.....what have you read or heard that confirms that? |
