Waiting for McDavid is the plan. They will shower him with wining culture motif. Will send Leclaire and Sharp to win him over.

Would really love to see and hear the Flyers pitch for a player like that.

Wouldn’t shock me…it’s not like they are trying to get better draft picks for the so called rebuild.

If he is a true #1 do not see that package getting it down. You will have to overpay for a 22 year old potential #1 d.

Is York really a significant upgrade right now over Clarke?

Or, the smart play would have been drafting Zeev so you dont have to give up a ton of assets. But hey, at least we drafted the next speedy version of The Room.

Imagine anyone thinking the Flyers will unlock any offensive potential Jett may have when he gets to the NHL.

How many smallish d-men does a team need?

Hopefully Laughton and Risto get traded too. Laughton was pretty awful yesterday.

I do not think the Flyers will finish in the bottom five. Anaheim, Seattle, St Louis, Utah and Pittsburgh would all need to pass them. They are 7 points ahead of Buffalo. So bottom four ain't happening. So hopefully 6-8?

That won't land you a 1D or 1C in my opinion. Maybe they will get some lottery luck.

- mickel25

I think Desnoyer could be a 1C and may be available in that range but he appears to be moving up draft boards. Jackson Smith has the talent to be a 1D too in that range but defenseman are crap shoots. Winning the lottery would be preferable.

Clarke is 21 years old. It wil take him another 3-4 years before he is at his peak. LA is a good team that wants to compete now. They might trade Clarke for more established roster players and a pick or two. York, a prospect and a 1st round pick night get it done.
- jd250

Clarke isn’t a 1D and that is a very big overpayment. I am all for overpaying in a trade but not for a defenseman that will need a defensive responsible partner which if they trade York, the Flyers don’t have on the left side.

"Danny Briere was on the Philly broadcast and he basically confirmed with everybody it's said that they're clearing cap room and they're going big game hunting. Like, they're really going to try something either this - you know, it's interesting, I had a couple of guys tell me that the new cap numbers, there's going to be offer sheets this summer. It worked for the Blues. You know, they may not make the playoffs this year but the Blues got two players who are really going to help them for a long time and they think more teams are going to do this and the Flyers have a lot of room. Now everybody has a bit more cap room, so I'm not sure if teams are going to be in a better chance to protect themselves against them, but I think - Briere basically came out and said the Flyers are going to be a team to watch."

This was always the plan for the "rebuild." A lot of us have been saying this for a long time. They are just waiting for cap space to overpay in a trade or UFA.

Why mess with what works? It's a proven model for putting asses in the seats, actual winning, not so much. Guess which one they actually care about.

I think Briere is going to offer sheet Mason McTavish. I'm well aware the Ducks will have even more cap space then the Flyers this summer. The Ducks are owned by the Samueli family. For the previous few years, all of their young players have signed bridge deals after the ELC has ended. Drysdale and Zegras were a prolonged negotiation. Will the Ducks be willing to break tradition and sign a young player to a long-term extension for McTavish? With the cap rising, I'm not so sure most of the league will be willing to get near the ceiling of the cap. I wonder where Anaheim will fit with the cap about to rise significantly over the next few years. Also, a lot of smoke to York to ANA for the past few seasons, could see a McTavish for York trade in the summer. Could be another possibility.

I highly doubt the credibility of this report. What broadcast was Briere on? The last interview he gave was his mid year on Jan 21st and then this past Saturday answering questions about the trade. I searched and could find no other interviews or appearances by Briere, so where did this broadcast take place?
