Craig Button released his Top 50 prospects outside the NHL.

Zeev Buium, who I was going to take with Sens pick. Zayne Parekh (drafted 9th by Calgary last year after Ottawa pick), was ranked 5th. Sam Richardinson (7th) Beckett Sennecke (8th) were others taken last year.

Carter Yakemchuk was not in the top 10, not top 20, not top 30.... he was number 40!

these lists are opinion, most have Yak in the top 16

Really ???? When did Craig Button become the defacto grader of minor league talent. Most of what he says is garbage.

Ignore Button. He still thinks +/- is important.

This is a team that needs the break. Plus some secondary scoring. But its a good run and they are still in it. And they've shown they can bounce back. East is beast this year.

Unless the Sens want to spend $14mil in the offseason on Rantanen or Marner, I don't know where they are going to get more scoring.

Need to replace Cousins, Gregor, et all. And hope Perron learns how to score again...

11-7 is always ugly. This team falls apart without Pinto.

Ottawa is 30th in high-danger scoring chances for at five-on-five, and that even includes games with Norris and Pinto healthy. There have been instances where Stutzle skates up the ice, creating an advantage, but his teammates simply can’t catch up.

OTT needs to rebuild again, this team sucks, they are slow, cant score (part of that is do to coaching) have among the lowest Hockey IQ of any team (might be partly because of coaching), they cant defend poop (partly do to coaching) have no assets they would be willing to trade to be able to upgrade the team. everyone including sandy and Stu should be traded within the next 2 years that is currently on the roster.

You must be the most miserable person in the world, they are a young team, they are missing 2 of their top 3 centers, a lot of the veterans they have brought in have been out of the lineup. They have also had the hardest schedule out of any team this year thus far in a cannibalistic Atlantic division. A lot of these things every team goes through at some point in the season, but young teams struggle more with.
Yes, there are a few players who have sucked this year, our depth additions havent worked out as well as hoped, Timmy Stu needs to shoot the effin puck more. Cannot argue against some of the things you say, but your doom and gloom outlook is just getting so old. Trade Sanderson and Stu? Seriously? Is this just your I hate life vent forum?

Can you imagine having to live or work with this person? I feel terrible for whomever has that burden.

Looks like two more Senators players will be playing in the Four-Nations tournament...

USA added Sanderson to replace Hughes (VAN)

Finland added Matinpalo to replace Ristolainen (PHI)

Sanderson had to be part of the conversation for Team USA for quite a while, but it's an interesting bit of recognition for Matinpalo... despite being an offensive black hole, he's got a sound defensive game and is quite a bit more physical than his stat lines would suggest. It's doubtful that he plays, but he's certainly become a more significant part of the Senators than many expected when he re-signed a two-way contract in the off-season.

The recognition is that he's basically the last guy left that Finland can play. But good on him, even as a default it's nice to play against the big boys.

Both Matinpalo and Kleven are pleasnt surprises this year. And look to be options for the 5/6 guys going forward.

Becoming more and more obvious the Sens have to make some sort of move ahead of the final playoff push.

Nothing drastic because:
- they don't have cap space (around a million?)
- they don't have much tradeable talent (and are losing a 1st rd sometime in next two years)
- there isn't much out there in the UFA/affordable player marker
- there aren't that many teams out of it/looking to trade right now (only 2 in the east and 5 in the west)
- if the Sens want to take on anyone with more than $2million in salary they have to ship someone out and/or get another team to take on salary and/or trade back an injured player

Players to ship out include Hamonic, Forsberg, JBD, all of the fourth line, maybe Perron, maybe one of Grieg or Pinto (if you feel C is deep enough and Belleville options are progression). Maybe Mads if he wasn't hurt.

At this point, I feel scoring is the issue and size are the issues. How many $1 to 3 million dollar scorers are out there?

How bout Br. Schenn for Josh Norris? Get bigger, stronger at the 2nd C position. And schenn has playoff success. Thoughts?

So.

A slightly different tune from Green regarding Norris and Pinto this morning. Status now a "maybe" for Montreal on Saturday night?

Pinto was what appeared to be wrist? And Norris...abdominal?

Seth Jones trade rumors persist.

I still think defense is no longer the area of concern for this team, and Zub and Jensen are better than Jones at what the Sens need (and cheaper) but I'll bite:

If CHI does not retain salary, Jones has very little value IMO. And the Sens don't have the cap space to pick his ticket. In that scenario....Perron HAS to go back to make it work. And I think both Forsberg and Hamonic have to go too. And even THEN I don't think the numbers work.

Perron and Zub for Jones.

But if I"m the Sens, I avoid this like the plague.....

Pretty great night from a sens fan perspective last night.

Canada wins and Brady and Sanderson both score and looked great. Hoping Brady comes back on a mission, and the two weeks off gave Pinto and Norris time to heal up.

I thought so too. Sanderson looked very good for the US.

But I"ve seen on other sites and pundits (and half the guys at the bar last night) that all this did for Brady was start a clock til when he forces a trade to FLA to play with his brother. Sens need playoffs success to prevent that.
