Don - "Doesn’t matter. MP and his agent know that Alvin is fired if he walks. He has zero leverage. Demand $10X8"
Dayal - "There’s no world where Pettersson comes in at a number lower than the $5.25 million with term...Given Pettersson’s statistical profile and the leverage...we should probably set our baseline expectations for his next deal somewhere in the range of six years at a $6.5 million" well done Dayal - solid work kid!
NewYorkNuck "Probably closer to 7 with the cap increase."
Booner - :I think thats where his new contract settles"
Vantal - "The cap will be up by 14 mil in two years? I say go for it."
Retinaz - "With the rising cap, would everyone prefer MP at 5-6 years 7m or 8 years 6m?"
NHawk - "My guess is 7/7m to lock him up he’ll be 35 at the end of it. 5-6yrs probably a hard sell for a player likely wanting a big last contract."
Jkuzzi - "More money less years. He won't get 7.
6mill x 5 or 6 maybe 6.5 x 6"

Allvin did a great job on the contract. Pettersson definitely left money on the table to stay in Vancouver. Didn't think with the market and the leverage Allvin would be able to get that.
From Dayal:
Why this is a good contract extension for the Canucks
The Canucks desperately needed another high-end top-four defenseman to slot in behind Hughes and Filip Hronek. Vancouver’s woes with its bottom-four defense have arguably been its biggest roster weakness this season.
When colleague Thomas Drance and I looked at potential statistical comparables based on usage and production, Esa Lindell (five years, $5.25 million AAV) felt like an appropriate floor and Brady Skjei (seven years, $7 million AAV) represented the absolute ceiling It’s also worth noting that both players signed in no-state income tax regions. We expected an extension might land in the $6-6.5 million AAV range, especially because Pettersson’s camp had strong leverage — the Canucks, after surrendering a big haul to acquire him, couldn’t really afford to let him walk away in the summer as a free agent.
A $5.5 million cap hit lands much closer to the floor rather than the ceiling of what we anticipated a Pettersson extension to cost. It should age well given how substantially the cap is expected to rise over the next few years.
It’s especially comforting for the Canucks to address a core long-term need ahead of the offseason, where the supply of UFA top-four defensemen is thin yet the demand for those players will be high given how many teams will have significant money to spend given the upcoming salary cap spike. |

Yes I remember those. Too lazy to find but I posted around a total 30M contract and it will be soon with term. |

Not sure why anyone replies. I've ignored him since the lowlife showed his true colours with his Gaudreau comment. - Load Management
Fishing for compliments from the haters when you know I made no comment about the Gaudreaus. I even apologized to you if you took my question about Lordlunatic that way. Have been one of the few who posted first about the loss and tragedy about them. So keep your pompous flag flowing. IRL you wouldn’t be man enough to carry that out. I said my piece f@ck off if you’re not able to take it. But don’t keep dragging the Gadreau tragedy into this piss contest. It’s damn disrespectful of their loss. |

To the rest of you that come here to post about hockey I apologize for not ignoring the trolling this time.
I usually have and contribute a few hockey comments here and there. Which is too much for some who have nothing better than to do but b!tch.
I’ll leave it at that and look forward to the game and Canuck retool. |

I agree. Obviously they had permission to negotiate with him before the trade otherwise this deal wouldn't have been done so quickly. I think it's a pretty tidy piece of business. |

I am not concerned, he has been pretty consistent throughout the years. As I mentioned a few days ago, the guy is like Tanev, consistently decent, which is something this team needs more of. |

Even that Bruin fan wouldn’t come up with this; and yes, you are half joking, but come on do better.
I am with you they shouldn’t have traded Podkolzin for a 4th. He’s better then Amen or Karlsson on the 4th line.
The TDL for the Canucks will be interesting. It may be a mixture of trades; with players out, and then end up with one/two in to add to the top 6. - Quinn's Quest
If he wasn’t a 1st round draft pick he would have never been traded. |
