They can do it. Just need to regroup and remember what worked so well in January.
- Scabeh

you mean the last part of January for the draft

They could even drop low enough to get one of Frondell, Eklund, Densoyers, McQueen,

Well that's part of it, but I give more weight to Pierre Lebrun saying the team and Evans sent contract offers and they're not close.

I've been in the "don't give him more than 3.5M per season" camp since the beginning, if he wants more money or too long a term, we're better off moving on from him.

And I like Evans, I wish he'd stick around but he needs to be paid like what he is, a bottom 6 centre with little offensive upside that's great on the pk.

- Scabeh

word is he wants close to 4.5M/yr for over 5yrs

Out of the 4, I think I like Desnoyer the best.

But it's still early to draw conclusions.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Also makes sense the Habs don't want to give him that.

There's a scenario where the Habs pick two LHJMQ players in the first round with Desnoyer and Carbonneau.

McQueen has the highest potential but he's been injured for most of the year.

Desnoyers seems like a realistic target, talent, size and work ethic, what's not to like

and he is from Ste-Hyacinthe

When that rumour came out the Isles were in a tailspin right? I know they got hot recently. They have nothing else worthwhile to sell other than Nelson, makes sense people would bring him up. Nobody is touching all of those longterm deals and elderly guys.

hmm, I wonder how far apart they are, or in other terms how unrealistic Evans' proposed number is lol... I doubt it's Hughes being a cheap ass and barely offering him a raise.

anyway I'm not too worried about it, as I'm sure this situation was anticipated and they've already been looking at other options for next year.

Oh look, another gigantic WHL player scoring in the easiest to score in league getting hype because he's big. Haven't seen this every year.

To be fair. Nobody expected the Avs to punt Rantanen mid season to the Hurricanes...so who the (frank) knows? Maybe he picks his nose and eats it and his teammates are simply done with his debauchery?

That would not surprise me, depending on where the Flames pick ends up.

Habs currently have

1st round x 2
2nd round x 2
3rd round x 3
4th round x 2

(Some conditional stuff in there that might move things around a little....).

I do not expect them to use all those pick to draft players.

If they give him 3.5, they are doubling his salary.

The man is a career high 29 pts players. He's having the best season of his life and might not even reach 40 pts. His biggest upside is being great on the penalty kill. Which would be the main reason he gets that 3.5M in the first place.

People comparing this to the Danault situation are crazy, Danault was acting as our first line centre (a bad one but still), an elite shutdown playerr, a playoffs performer and a local guy to boot.

Cheaping out on Danault for 500k was stupid. Bergevin was a fool.

Not giving Evans 4.5M is just smart. Imho.

Meh.

With new cap numbers, $3.5 for 5 would be not be terrible.

well, 4M is an overpayment for sure, but with the cap significantly going up it won't be a complete and total disaster either...
