He commented on last nights game and I replied about last nights game. Why are are you bringing other games into the conversation?

Now if Torts sits him more next game then I will bash Torts. I am not one of the numb nuts who can't think of anything else other than to bash Torts.

And again I was pointing on that you only have to "play the right way" sometimes -- and that Mr accountable is a fraud

Why has it taken 2 seasons under gmdb to get to the team-changing off-season?
- corduroy

It should be obvious. Fletcher left this team in bad shape both cap wise and player value. It takes time to make the right moves to evaluate players and move out the players you don't think will be part of the future. But then once the decision is made, you need to be patient and wait for the right deal to come along. Briere did a great job last season getting Provorov, Hayes and DeAngelo moved out, especially getting basically 2 1st and 2 2nd round picks for Provorov. He did a great job getting out from under Farabee's remaining contract. Moving on from Frost was long overdue, and as expected Briere swapped Frost for another young player that needed a change of scenery. I suspect Briere will trade Risto this deadline, where Risto's value is the highest. Think as we entered this season some were saying we needed to cover 50% of Risto's salary to move him. Now there is talk that teams will take his remaining contract in full and return a 1st round pick, most likely in 2026. I think Laughton will be moved finally also. With these moves the Flyers will have over $30M in cap space to play with this off season, plus 7 picks in the first 2 rounds of the draft. I can't imagine a rebuilding team being in a better spot.

Briere was on Flyers daily today, and it was a very insightful interview. To me it seemed clear Briere intends to make more moves before the deadline, and is gearing up for a big summer. I really think this is the right time to break some glass and move this rebuild forward.
- jd250

You really lap it up.

A big summer. What moves will break the glass? Who should they pursue in free agency?

Let's here your plan as to what Danny should do.

With 14 regulation wins, is it possible these group of players would be playing better under a different head coach? I just find it fascinating the media narrative is Torts is getting all that can be gotten out of this team. I guess Yzerman did not have the same view as Lalonde and he certainly did not get the media cover. Don't get me wrong, I'm all about positioning for the best possible draft pick this season, and I feel Torts is the right person for the job.

Lmao! Yes, the Frosty trade had to hurt. I figured Frosty was MJLs son the way he fawned over him. I'm not on here all the time but seems like we are missing a lot of other peeps like Phillywhiteout, Hello its me, Black Francis, Feanor, Black Hand, PT21, etc.

He couldn't. You can't just wave a magic wand and free up cap space and replace half the players on the team. Recall when Briere started there was poor player development, no real prospects in the system, the medical staff was a mess, no GM at LHV, the scouting needed to be overhauled, etc. Fletcher left the Flyers in a mess.

all of that is true today

The team still does not have cap space
there is no player development
there are no real prospects
the medical staff is still a mess
the AGM is generally the gm of the ahl affiliate -- Flahr is still around isn't he?
no moves have been made to overhaul the scouting department - FLahr was in charge of the draft and you have proclaimed and how good of a job he is doing

Didnt you say that the moves chuckles made put the flyers on the path towards the cup?

The player development is still poor. There are no real prospects in the system. Was Danny part of Flecther's staff? I forget.

What overhaul did they do to the scouting staff?

Save your post and replace Briere with the next Gm's names and input Briere where you mention Fletcher.

That's a comical take. Clearly they had players to move. See the moves you referenced in your post. They could have traded TK and Laughton very easily. Sanheim also. They definitely could have sped this process up and maybe landed Bedard or Celebrini along the way.

Never really pulling the plug and then hitting the gas after only two years is about the worst path you can take when rebuilding a team. We will be having this same conversation 5 years from now if they stay on the current path.

No, MJL said this is what I said. At the time I was very happy with the moves Fletcher made to get Ellis and Risto that off season because he as trying to fill two big gaps on the team at the time, a top pairing RHS defenseman and a 2nd pairing physical defenseman. What I didn't know at the time was Ellis was damanged goods and would only play 5 games, Risto needed a big reset, and most importantly, AV had lost the room the season before and Fletcher didn't have a plan B for coaching the team. In the end, Fletcher got fleeced by Nashville, and stubbornly doubled down with extending Risto when it was clear the season had blown up and the rebuild should have started the following season.

As far as the other statements you made, allow me to retort:

Next season the Flyers are projected to have $23M in cap space, and will probable have more with additional trades
No player development? Cates, Brink, Foerster havn't developed? Veterans like TK and Risto have not developed?
No Real prospects? Michkov? Luchanko? Bonk? Barkey? Kolosov? Carson Bjarnason?
And what is wrong with the medical staff currently?

With the Hilf letter explaining ticket increase and Briere coming out they plan doing big things in the summer, it does appear the path to relevancy has been set. Sure looks like they plan on tanking the rest of the season to secure the highest draft pick possible. After that, round out the roster with trades and hope they have enough accumulated to build a contender. Homer's tenure was a similar strategy, would have been nice to draft Kane over JVR, history might have been different. So in 5 years we will have answers.
