Did he develop or is he just a tweener in his prime? - Victoro311
Just another guy that’s probably good enough to play in the NHL, but probably wont ever stick because he wont change his game and embrace a role that isn’t what he’s been used to his whole life. |

Bennstrom definitely showed some great development this season in the AHL. He almost looked like Rakell for WBS. Pono is still developing especially defensively so I think they were hesitant to bring him up right away. I think they want him to build up this season so he can be in the bottom six next season. They really want a few of these players to stay in WBS even though in previous years they would have been called up. - 123Kid
I get that for the rookies, but Ponomarov is in his third season in the minors. They have to make a call on exposing him to waivers next year. I would like to see if he has anything to offer. |

I think it would be addition by subtraction with us getting rid of Karlsson. With that being said such a great win! |

This team hates Dubas... Everytime he sells an important player, they start winning. Missed the game, but did it look like Rackell actually did play center? |

Awesome. Amazing he has gone from untradeable (bad) to many here at the start of the season to playing 1C.
Now you could definitely get a 1st & 2nd for him, maybe even 2 1sts. I'd like to keep him, but he's almost played himself out of here. He is exactly what LA needs, I'll bet Dubas is trying to pry Clarke out of their hands. |

It was a great win. Loved the effort from the whole team. They're getting a little bit of swagger.
Karlsson was a classic he gives and he takes away game. He is still a guy who logs a ton of minutes. And if you look at his GF% (actual goals scored v goals let up) he's 4th among regulars (7th if you add in Boko, Poulin, and Pulj). Not worth his cap hit, but he would leave a sizable hole they need to find someone to replace if they move him. |

Picture perfect definition of a bounce back season for Rackell. And now that the cap is jumping so much, the aging concerns on the back end of his deal won't be nearly as bad.
That said, the only teams that realistically will get the most out of him will have an opening for a righty on the PP. GMs might miss that though. |

The cap increase makes Karlsson easier to swallow for us. I've become kind of impartial on keeping or trading him. I do think there is a market for him and there are teams that could really use him.
Buffalo could really use him but not a snowballs shot in hell he waived to go there.
Montreal should be interested. Laine has revealed his true colors there this season, while talented, he is a whiny, lazy brat.
Karlsson & McGroarty for Laine & Mailloux. Laine is slightly cheaper and only one season left vs Karlssons two.
Mailloux is the reason I want this trade. The kid is a stud RD and has been kind of pissed around by Montreal for whatever reason. I'll put up with Laine for a year, and it's a contract year, so he might actually show some guts. |

Teams are definitely desperate for a RHD. I think Karlsson would bring a decent return. Maybe teams make a deal once Ekblad is signed this offseason. Or maybe someone believes he is the player they are missing to get them to the cup and makes a deal this deadline. I still want a deal to revolve around Norris with Ottawa (which I can see as a definite interested party). |

I can appreciate that here you got a stud RHD prospect back who is in the NHL. I wouldn't take this deal though.
1) McGroarty is still the higher rated prospect. He should still be the type of glue guy forward this team has lacked since maybe Kunitz.
2) I have no interest in Laine anymore. Rackell has bounced back from that shoulder surgery very well and has provided that RS option we needed for the PP. Laine isn't worth it after that and I'd say he's worse than EK.
If there was something they could do around EK and Mailloux, I'd be all for it. Just not at the expense of McGroarty and Laine at this point is a favor to take on. |

Where are you gathering Kunitz type vibes from Mcgroarty? Kunitz is from Saskatchewan. |

I saw him play in Brampton earlier this year. Really good player. Looks like a steal in the 7th round. Penguins have impressive blue line prospects in Harding, Brunicke, Pickering and Pieniniemi.

I distrust Yohe's scouting because too often it's fast=good. But checking his stats that's some nice growth and a righty to boot. I still think they need that top pair stud, but the d pool is looking decent with all four of the guys you mentioned improving their stock this year. |

Rust to IR, unknown why as I type this. Ponomarov recalled so maybe getting his look after all.
Also no mention here yet but Pulj's contract is being terminated. Right move as he wasn't going to get much more of a shot here with how strong WBS is at forward. Frees up a contract space which could be useful at the deadline or even adding a waiver claim. |

Rust played the whole game last night, no? I’m very confused how he’s hurt. |

I'm not excited to get Laine in this scenario, trust me. You could just buy him out at $4M and $2.4M over the next 2 years.
I don't hate McGroaty but Mailloux is going to be a way better player. He is a year older but as a D he scores at a higher rate than McG in the AHL. Plus he has 5 points in 7 NHL games.
So to me, the worst case here is we get Mailloux and $6M cap space for Karlsson & McGroaty. I'd take it. |

I don't follow prospect much, but it does appear we have some decent prospects. Not the black hole it was a couple of years ago. No superstars, but maybe some NHL talent.

I doubt he would wavier his NTC for Montreal. I could see us going after Dach (from previous reports), Anderson (for cap purposes), maybe Malloux (for a replacement at RHD), plus I would assume a pick or prospect. For Karlsson and I could assume maybe someone like Acciari/Hayes goes the other way. |
