and both Buffalo and LAK regret making that move now.

PlD and Eichel were supposed cancer in the room who were vocal about wanting to win and pushing teammates hard, so they had to get traded. Sound familiar?.

Not sure any gm is taking a gamble on that contract without some retention, but you may be right, the Canucks may have to take a cap dump instead.
At the current rate, the Canucks might get Dylan Cozens, but more realistically would be Nick Cousins

- Reubenkincade

If they retain any it won’t be much. It’s too long. Most likely they end up taking a cap dump back as part of a package.

He's not getting traded, people are short-sighted, he's going to retire a Canuck and be the third in their history to reach the 1000 point plateau.

He looks like crap right now though.

Have to say we've given Petey the benefit of the doubt for awhile now. This crap in his play may be permanent but man it's still baffling. Hopefully Nighty can explain in 20 posts with single paragraphs.

Agreed. He looks like shit right now. I think Allvin would definitely move him for the right price, but have a feeling everyone is going to try and lowball them. Can't wait for the weeks of articles and speculation about him being traded right before his NTC kicks in

The amount of crying we're going to see after his NMC kicks in, is going to be glorious.

Why does, what we think, truly matter? It doesn't, no one cares what we think, it's just internet fodder. Good players have down years on occassion, Ovechkin had a 65 point year when he was 25-26 years old, I guess the Caps should've traded him...right?

Ovechkin is a terrible example, when he had that off year, he still scored around 40 goals.

I think there would be less crying about him being traded than there would about him not being traded. Now, whatever they get back for him could see a lot of crying, but him actually being traded...

I can see that biting us in the ass like Cam Neely where as soon as he leaves he becomes a perennial 100 point player while we get useless players back. Sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

Maybe, but you're missing the point if that's what you're focusing on. I can come up with many many examples of second tier guys who've had off years. Some of them never recovered, but most of them did.

I actually never advocated for Pettersson to be traded just was hoping that he rebounds but clearly that may not happen. Not sure I would have used OV as an example but hey you do you man...

Either way, the amount of emotional investment people are putting into this is somewhat comical....it's just hockey.

Again, people focus on the fluff instead of the sentiment. The gist of the post is that players struggle from time to time in their careers, not that Pettersson is in the same class of player as OV. It's like talking to toddlers in here, where you have to explain everything to them.

As a long-standing fan of the team, I hope it works out either way, if they keep him - he recovers his form, if they trade him - they get a good return.

In 2018 Tyler Seguin (26 yrs old) signed a 9.85 million dollar a year deal, 12.5% of the cap that year, approximately, a couple years later he struggled with injury and had a 50 point year. He's never really regained form.

It's a gamble they're going to have to carefully manage.

It's his skating. WTF happened to it? He's always had that bambie on ice look to him but that buckled-kneed glide that he does now looks like he forgot how to skate. It's just so weird.

Good career number though...

988 gms. 360 g, 448 a, 808 pts, +88

EP is on track to shatter Seguin's numbers.
