Well said - "slow clap"

I dont understand the all or nothing mentality. Like "he 26yrs, he'll never ever be good again, trade him NOW, regardless of everything." It's mental.

It's either slurper or hater in here - when realistically, there's valid arguments on either side and a massive middle groud that a lot of people glaze over, no matter how relevant the stats/evidence presented.

- Brooks_Light

It's completely bizzaro world how emotional fans get about one guy making too much money. The success of the franchise will only be accomplished if that one guy lives up to his contract.

They paid him too much to begin with and now he's not playing anywhere near even a 7 million dollar player, but, the guy is only 26 years old so lets hope he can turn it around. In the meantime, the Canucks need to continue to compile good players and build a strong team.

Feels very much like the Blueger/Suter upside deals
- NewYorkNuck

Yup - very much - he's an effective mid 6 guy, gotta use his speed and forecheck.

If he can contribute 25-35 points (maybe some PK TOI) - that'd be excellent value.

Finally! Now we can discuss this contract at length

Vancouver Canucks
@Canucks
General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that the #Canucks have agreed to terms with forward Drew O’Connor on a two-year contract extension worth $2.5M AAV.

They don't seem to be prioritizing Boeser.

Of course it is mental.
The team president and GM both came out publicly and stated they have had multiple discussions regarding commitment and training issues not being up to the standards expected.
The issue imo, is why did they commit the contract they did to a player they had questions about? I would not have signed Petey at all, as he is not my type of player to invest long term in. But with the stated issues? The deal is insane. Even if he comes back to a point a game player, his physical commitment and mental buy in do not scream build a team around me.
So this brings it to why was he resigned? and the most logical answer is ownership. Aqua the Meddler is the real problem with this team.

Of course they did - I've said multiple times, even the most hard core EP fan is not arguing against that.

Posters are going to complain that this season he's clearly not worth the $$ based on his performance/points - fans are 100% right & should be rightfully disappointed. But calling for his throat after each 0pt game is mental.

First 3 years - put up 153pts in 165 games and cost 925K - where was the complaining? Thats insanely massive value.

2nd contract - 259 pts in 242 games at $7.35 - thats incredible value as well. He got paid based on these 6 years of stats - AS ALL PLAYERS DO.

And while I think it's 1.6$ per yr too much - I get the contract. More so, when you consider GMs taking into account the projected cap rise of 95mil 26', 104$ 27' and 113$ 28'

His skating looks off and he needs to shoot more.

He gone. They've consistently said they were "evaluating" him and looking at contract stuff. Once they traded for Pettersson it was a "priority" to sign him, and they got the deal done in a week or whatever.

There has been absolutely no actual Canucks news before that contract extension. I think they're practicing soon so hopefully a new one up... maybe Thursday

Hughes unlikely to play:

As it turns out, Hughes can’t play unless the Americans lose another defenseman to injury or illness before their championship showdown with Canada.

Hughes was one of the first six players named to the U.S. roster in June, but he had to bow out of the tournament before it started with a reported oblique injury. He was replaced by Ottawa Senators youngster Jake Sanderson, who played in place of McAvoy on Monday night in a 2-1 loss to Sweden.

NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told The Athletic on Tuesday that Hughes can’t play unless the team doesn’t have enough defensemen to play against Canada.

Similarly, last week Team Canada rushed Dallas Stars defenseman Thomas Harley to Montreal to be on call when Shea Theodore was lost for the tournament with an upper-body injury. Harley was not allowed to practice or play unless the Canadians went below six defensemen. When Cale Makar was unable to play Saturday night against the United States due to illness, Harley debuted and then was officially put on Canada’s roster.

So the same rules will apply with Hughes, Daly said. Unless one of Sanderson, Zach Werenski, Adam Fox, Brock Faber, Jaccob Slavin or Noah Hanifin can’t play Thursday, Hughes isn’t permitted to play. But the Americans wanted to make sure somebody was ready to be inserted, especially considering several players have been struck by illness during the tournament.
