I would volunteer to play goal in a beer league if I could wear that gear. I would be barely a step above just putting practice dummy in the net, but goalies are hard to find. Actually I might be below a practice dummy because it doesn't avoid pucks. But I'd stop more than an empty net I think.

If your serious about it go for it! Start in one of those learn to play leagues as a goalie and work your way up, you will progress much more quickly that new players to the game. The skating is important as a goalie (despite what the old belief of put the kid who can't skate in net) but its a different type of skating (and skate for that matter).

You are bang on though, you will be sought after and get to play way more for way less (or free) as a goalie, nobody wants to play posts if they can avoid it.
