I like Marner but Marner is not a guy who plays at extreme pace. He likes to slow the play and find openings. McDavid and MacKinnon are both rush players who want to accelerate the pace. They drive the net - Marner typically acts as F1 (the high forward) to distribute pucks - neither of McDavid or MacKinnon need that guy nor use him well. They want a net driver. A guy like Hyman or Bennett or who we want Knies to be.

Marner would probably quite well with Crosby, Marchand, Stone, Point or Konecny . . . maybe even Bennett or Reinhart - but absolutely not with MacKinnon nor McDavid.

Marner physically is not built as McDavid or MacKinnon, he needs more room to be effective player. We saw it so many times in playoffs. Still love Mitch, he can't be replaced on this team.

There is. We know he operates on the perimeter - but one thing that's really apparent to me is that while Marner operates on the perimeter and it's much harder to get a puck through when the defense tightens up, his real problem with the Leafs is that no one drives the net for him to get pucks to. When people finally did it - it was Edmundson. Edmundson! Where was Matthews? Were was Bertuzzi? Where were the guys who are supposed to penetrate the diamond and get in dangerous areas? Instead they were ALSO floating in the perimeter.

So I'm not saying Marner doesn't - because it's obvious he does - but a guy like that is great as long as you have some other guys who want to score enough to create some net front chaos.

Mitch is too perimeter. Allowing teams to collapse on his teammates. Especially in playoffs. He has been solid defensively but next to invisible offensively playing with the best player in the world. He was visible 3-3 too bad that doesn’t exist in NHL playoffs or the finals of 4 Nations.

To only be outshot 3-2 in game 2 being used as a shutdown unit against the top team in the tournament seems like a success for me.

I don't know if they really played as the shutdown unit - they were mostly paired against Boldy-Miller-Larkin, I think. . . I don't have any game stats for it to know, and it's not like I wasn't enjoying a few drinks while watching . . . my biggest takeaway from that game was that Canada was the better team and Hellebuyck stole the win. The US had a much better looking powerplay, Canada had a better overall game. The US was, as a team, faster, but Canada looked a bit more structured.

It doesn't matter - being outshot 3-2 isn't that bad. They definitely managed a low event game. I don't, personally, think that highly of Cirelli in an offensive role - but I do think highly of Point. I'd much rather see him in a top-6 role and let Marner play in the third line role - because he can. Marner has been defensively good this game but offensively he hasn't clicked with his linemates.

Assigning specific roles to a National team of elite players regardless of where they usually play….that’s crazy talk.

We see that different. Mitch with go through the perimeter with the puck, but not alone - it's a recipe to lose the puck and get murdered doing so. As much as most of us don't like to face it - the biggest problem in that top line is Auston Matthews not battling when he should. He's 6'3 and 220lbs and everything he does in the playoffs is from the outside - a good 5 feet or more further back than where he is in the season. Maybe Knies is the guy - but you need someone to disrupt the opposition D and create some chaos in the defensive positioning - but with Matthews playing 36 feet away from the net, instead of about 25 where he finds most of his success, Mitch will have to find another guy to pot the puck.

Agreeing, and yes.

There’s potential to have 4 lines of first liners on a national team. Someone has to do things they don’t normally do, but not all players are adaptable.

Agreed. This team could use both Zach Hyman and Tom Wilson, though. Konecny and Jarvis out.

Definitely Hyman. The energy and physicality of Wilson would be welcome - he does have a tendency to take a number of poor penalties.

Anyone that votes for Carney is a joke. He’s just another of the elite leftists that are killing the planet. He showed up to his election announcement in a stretch Rolls Royce.

He’s already said he’ll continue the reckless spending deficits.

Don't tell Facebook:

"In this time of global economic uncertainty, Governor Carney has done an admirable job in fulfilling the Bank of Canada’s mandate and has been a valued partner as the Government has worked to steer Canada away from the worst impacts of the global economic recession."

I mean, it's easy to play monday morning quarterback but....

I do feel Scheifele belonged on that team. And I don't really like that guy.

Konecny, Cirelli and Jarvis were disputable choices that didn't really didn't prove people wrong.

Replace these three with Scheifele, Wilson and Suzuki and I think Canada has a better team.

Brad Marchand as well probably but he was locked way too early.

I have zero social media. No Facebook, x, instagram or any of that crap. You go ahead and bury your head and vote for more of the same garbage. It’s your right.
