Binner lost the game for them.
With a goalie like Hellebuyck Canada would have two shutouts now.
Gotta go with Hill vs the Finns. Get him primed for Can vs US round deux |

Yup, that second one was a good shot, 50/50, but a dialed in goalie would've likely stopped that. |

Hate the guy but thought Marchand should have been up there with top six at the end of third. |

Canada scored 1 goal.
Anyone blaming the entire loss on goaltending is missing half the problem.
1 goal.
Where have we seen this before Leafs fans?
Hmmmmmm
Also AM and MM - zero points or any real impact on this game. |

Really? I thought Matthews was outstanding breaking up plays all night. So underrated on the defensive end. Was head to head against the top line and doesn’t get enough credit for his 200’ game. |

You can’t play a team as good as the Americans and expect McD and Nate to do super things to win games. There just aren’t any weak spots to exploit like you get in league games. And they’re playing weren’t able to use their speed to create space because they didn’t have anyone to dish it off to or crash the net for a rebound.
Americans really did check well but the Canadians really weren’t coming up the ice as a unit and when they had the zone we saw a lot of east/west passes.
Disappointing loss but there’s no reason to think these guys can’t up their game. Having Makar back will help. Too bad that Harley is the guy who has to go out. I thought he played well and I’d rather see him over Doughty |

Agree
Doughty had a tough night but also coming back from injury and getting inserted into a crazy high end tournament.
Also very short term trying to gain chemistry with your new teammates in a 4 game series is tough but at the end every team has to do it so their is no excuses for that.

Fair it’s easy to overlook that part of Matthews game but he’s supposed to be the big offensive gun on the US squad and he was fairly invisible offensively. |

So you expect Binnington to literally pitch a shutout? That's an insane mode of thinking which doesn't surprise me one bit, just making note of the degree of delusion.
It's also unsurprising you would expect anything more or anything different from Hill. Binnington has not stolen games but he has made some big saves as well as let in questionable goals. But they left their best goalie at home. That was the big mistake. They knew it was a weakness and therefore you can't expect any of the goalies they selected to put up SOs to win games. That's a lazy, lame excuse when you have 5 of the top 10 point producers the past 10 seasons.
Hats off to Hagel / Bennett for attempting to fight the Tkachucks to start the game. But as admirable as it was, it's just another reminder that they were better off having Tom Wilson on this team. That's the guy you want at the opening face-off throwing fists (88 career fights) and going to war in a game like this (6'4, 220, more goals than the invisible Seth Jarvis). Cooper got to bring one too many pets and it hasn't paid off yet.
PP looked like Marc Savard was running it tonight. They got 2 chances, with that much fire power, they needed at least 1 PP goal.
One day hopefully, some of these Canadians will have Hellebuyck behind them in a different, more united capacity.
Canada should consider itself lucky the best American athletes can't skate. Despite having probably their 3rd or 4th tier athletes to mold into hockey players, USA Hockey's investment has paid off and they're reaping the rewards of it now.
Canada winning isn't a foregone conclusion. Hell, making the final is going to be a struggle. If USA takes the game off against Sweden, nothing is guaranteed for Canada anymore especially in one game elimination situations. |

They're amazing poop heads, but you have to love Matt and Brady finding the smallest guys on the ice to fight. He's a female genitalia, but JT Miller did the right thing finding the biggest guy he could to take off an important piece. |

How to beat the US, which by the way played a fantastic game. There’s a very good team with a perfectly executed game plan. Kudos to them, they deserve it.
1. Get Bummington out of the net. He’s a below average goalie in the NHL and has no business being in Canada’s net. Put Hill in vs Finland, let him find his groove. 4 of the 5 goals he allowed were stoppable. Maybe if he went and challenged Hellebuyck off the opening face off I’d be fine with him staying in net.
2. Change how they play. Who’s been the most dangerous? Crosby, Marner, Marchand.. McDavid is a freak and he’s going to score goals, but the US had a game plan for him and shut him and Mac down for the most part. They need to slow the game down more and let Sid and Mitch find them with some open ice. Constantly getting shutdown at the blueline was frustrating to watch. 29 & 97 had no space at all. Just slow it down, and turn on the jets when the opportunity arises.
3. Keep playing physical. Bennet was really the only forward out there running guys. Doughty’s been great on the blueline. They have to frustrate the US to win. All the pressure will be on them in Boston. |

Master of sophistry.
Day by day, word by word, he morphed into Alex Jones.
I’m one of those people who used to listen to the JRE. But I saw (heard?) the writing on the wall. He was charmed, seduce, manipulated by tech bros and kleptocrats. |
