2026 Olympics will be played on NHL-sized ice. - Atomic Wedgie
Well I had no idea and I'm not liking that so much if I'm being honest, for Canada.
Canada better re-think the strategy a bit because they need guys who can deal with the 2 Takchuk brothers running around like morons better than they did in this tournament IMO.
If they had been able to do that more effectively they walk over the USA.

It's almost as if some people can put politics aside and focus on what unites us vs what divides us. You should try it some time. - Whipper
Talk to Bill Guerin about that why don't you. |

So, it would appear Marner can be quite effective in the biggest moments and tightest do-or-die hockey at the highest level.
Thoughts? - Zezel
I'll be the first to admit I was wrong. I thought he was a pu$$y in the first. 11 grown a$$ men grinding hard, playing physical, taking and giving massive hits, and one fairy out floating about. But he stepped up when it mattered.
I hope he can bring that to the Leafs. I've been saying, this tournament is hopefully a HUGE learning experience for MM, AM, and even WN. Mitch knows the thrill of winning now. Matthews knows the crushing feeling of defeat. It'll help their careers. |

Now do Taylor Swift and her soon to be ex-boyfriend.
I'm just kidding, I really don't care about anything other than Canada showing the world that this is still our game. |

Ok, but unfortunately, Bill Guerin and USA hockey DID bring politics into, and Matthews is the team captain. Classless.
They should be pressed on it. - fifty__missions
I don't know. "Bill is the manager of the team and he is, as is everyone, allowed to voice their opinion. I can see that you'd like to, but I'd rather not bring politics into this discussion." I mean . . . I don't think they should have politicized it, but that shouldn't immediately make everyone else complicit or required to speak on the subject because one bozo said something.

Ya i get he hasnt won anything and folded last year in the playoffs, my point was that i feel like helly is one tier up from what we had. Maybe logan and or bennie get there by the Olympics.
Bennie was great in both OT's but it was our weakest spot.
Anywho, we won, still have a year until the Olympics....which will be a bit of different game as well. That will play a factor into it.
And i never wanted the leafs to trade for helly, saros or demko. - Fakepartofme
Your ignoring results due to your feelings on this. Goaltending was why they won so I'm not sure how you can say it was our weakest spot but its' your opinion so have at it.
To me the guy who won a cup, and this tourney is a 'tier up' from Helly.
Let me put it this way - Helly is what we all hate that the Leafs have been too often. Regular season top tier and then once playoffs come.....well you know the rest.
You & I both never wanted the Leafs to go after those goalies but there were many in here who were really passionate about wanting to do so, hell some even still say it. lol

Do it when wearing the blue jersey with the Leaf on the front.
That's my thought & I hope he can because he hasn't so far in his career IMO.

But Canada needs to get younger. Im perfectly fine with having them as subs. - Fakepartofme
For next year, I think Doughty and Binnington will be just fine. Doughty was an ageless wonder out there. I would probably ditch Marchand for Hyman though. |

Approximately half the population doesn't agree with you politically. You can whip yourself into a frenzy every time it rears its ugly head, or just get on with your life.
I'd recommend the latter. Lets focus on the fact that literally 5 days after the US crowned themselves the best hockey nation in the world, we b!tch-slapped them back in their place. |

Right - but the only ones who really spoke about it to my knowledge were Hanifin, Miller and Guerin. We can disagree but trying to make someone say something polarizing so you can pile on them because of something someone else said is not a game I want to play.

And you’re still very wrong. Helly is a much better goalie than Binnington. But it’s a team game. Sometimes goalies can steal games, sometimes their team in front of them fails them.
I guarantee you 32 GM’s in the NHL would pick Helly over Binnington. Without any hesitation. |

That's exactly my point. It doesn't matter what side you're on - politics should not have been brought into this competition by USA hockey.

I'm gonna have to go with the Turd on this one.
Hellbuyck remains the better goaltender, no doubt in my mind. His positioning and technique are at an elite level while Bennington, while likely more athletic, is all over the place and relies way more on his reflexes.
That doesn't take away anything from the extremely clutch performance from Binnington though. He came up big at the most important of times.

The joy of this is you can ask Matthews for an answer 1,000 times, and 1,000 times you're not going to get an answer (which I'm fine with).
So to save everyone time, just don't ask him (they already asked him once).
FFS, quit asking hockey players anything. It's a complete waste of time. The interviews after the game last night were absolutely brutal - reporters trying to wax poetic, asking the dumbest, floweriest questions their lazy reporter brains could come up with, and players just hitting "play" on their pre-recorded answers.
My favourite (I'll paraphrase a little) was to Binnington: You started playing goalie at age 6. What does this victory here today mean, looking back at how far you've come?"
Like, what? |
