It's almost as if some people can put politics aside and focus on what unites us vs what divides us. You should try it some time.

I like our odds for the Olympics. I was a bit worried we didn't ice enough snarl for this tourney, but cooler heads prevailed and this game wasn't the bloodbath I thought it was going to be.
- gravyface

It'll be an ice rivalry ..forever ...but, you look at the "next ones" and Canada is about to add Bedard, Fantilli, Celebrini, Wyatt Johnston, Guenther, Byfield, Beniers ....and more.

Yanks have Cooley, Hutson ...

Right - but the only ones who really spoke about it to my knowledge were Hanifin, Miller and Guerin. We can disagree but trying to make someone say something polarizing so you can pile on them because of something someone else said is not a game I want to play.
- Monkeypunk

I don't want Matthews to say something polarizing as a captain of the TML. I want him to say that musing about the annexation of a sovereign country is offside. If that's too polarizing to say....then Matthews can gtfo too, along with Uggie.

And you’re still very wrong. Helly is a much better goalie than Binnington. But it’s a team game. Sometimes goalies can steal games, sometimes their team in front of them fails them.

I guarantee you 32 GM’s in the NHL would pick Helly over Binnington. Without any hesitation.

- TurdFergeson

You either value championship experience or you don't, it's really that simple.

I, along with many other hockey minds (aka the guys who get paid to make decisions), unquestionably value championship experience and despite all of our griping, made the right call going with Binnington.

That's exactly my point. It doesn't matter what side you're on - politics should not have been brought into this competition by USA hockey.
- fifty__missions

To be fair to USA Hockey, I suspect that they had it thrust upon them - they didn't invite it.

The joy of this is you can ask Matthews for an answer 1,000 times, and 1,000 times you're not going to get an answer (which I'm fine with).

So to save everyone time, just don't ask him (they already asked him once).

FFS, quit asking hockey players anything. It's a complete waste of time. The interviews after the game last night were absolutely brutal - reporters trying to wax poetic, asking the dumbest, floweriest questions their lazy reporter brains could come up with, and players just hitting "play" on their pre-recorded answers.

My favourite (I'll paraphrase a little) was to Binnington: You started playing goalie at age 6. What does this victory here today mean, looking back at how far you've come?"

Like, what?

- Atomic Wedgie

Whoever promises in the next election to make interviewing hockey players illegal gets my vote.

No, Brady said it during his interview last night

He's not going to say that, but he's also not going to say anything disparaging about his second home. The guy's been living here for almost a decade now; have to think he's empathetic to what's been going on.

I don't want to cancel Gretzky, but I damn well am not going to hold him in the high esteem I used to.

Are we not allowed to change our perceptions on people, just because they accomplished great athletic feats 35+ years ago?

Are you still a huge fan of O.J. Simpson?

Marner and Binnington made a lot of people look stupid. Most of them dumber than they already are.

Binnington was never going to steal every single game but he has that Cup experience that pulled through.

Hopefully the Leafs can get some of that out of Murray.

He has a rib area injury that can't be fixed by surgery. I have a source (medical treatment insider) which you won't believe but it's true.
- Rare_Jewel

Matthews has a serious ribcage compression injury.

He has a secret kink of having morbidly obese women sit on his chest. This time he took a risk he shouldn't have. He flew in the legendary Straddlin' Madeleine Lafontaine from England. She weighs north of 600 pounds and is rumored to be the preferred squasher of royalty and A-list celebrities. Word on the grapevine says the orgasm was unrivaled, but at what price?

It’s one of those thing no one will ever know. They won with Binnington. Does that mean they would have lost with a different goalie??? Hell no. Maybe they’d have won by even more?? Maybe Hill, Thompson, Blackwood or whoever would have been a star.

It’s a moot point now that it’s over. I guarantee if he’d let one of this OT saves go in this would be a far different convo today. There would have been a lot of griping.

They absolutely invited it. Guerin's buddy is the one that set up the call. Hanifin explicitly said he wanted to get the win for Trump.

Thatckuk had the same injury in the playoffs two years ago and played through it. The guy is a gamer.

Yes, and there would've been a referendum on Canadian Hockey, full on tribunal, this place would be even more unbearable than it is with Rare_Uggie, a traitorous cancer of a poster who pretends to be a Leafs fan, but is really a soulless sad excuse of a man living off his mom's teet milk in his sticky basement cell.

So is Trump slurper syndrome.

I mean is there anything at all he’s done or said you disagree with??
Or do you just swallow and ask for the next load to gargle?
