I had a university professor who was still a proud Trotskyite. Her greatest source of pride was telling us that at one time, taking her course would automatically put you on a CSIS watchlist.

She literally teared up describing the assassination of Trotsky.

She was an absolute loon, but her course was fantastic.

P.S. Trotsky banged Frida Khalo.

- Atomic Wedgie

Well she was married to someone 20 years older than her (Frida, not your prof)

Nice.
Twice in year we had to go to parade on Red Square and saw all Politburo on Lenin's Mausoleum. Brezhnev, Kosugin, Grechco etc.
But most important I saw Johnny Bower and have a picture with him few years ago.

How is being a politician not working for a living?

How is voting in the house on things that will have an effect on 40 million people not making hard decisions?

We need to quit with this crap that politicians don’t work hard.

It’s a franking gruelling job.

Live in two cities.

Be away from your family for about six months a year.

It’s really two jobs if you are a backbencher - official duties and party duties.

Three jobs if you are a minister.

You constantly have to fundraise.

And you do it all for a wage significantly under the private sector.

We love to throw around this bullpoop that politicians are lazy arseholes, and then we complain that we can’t attract good candidates.

My problem is PP has been a career back-bench politician who's had a full ride pension since most of us were still paying off student loans, and that was even the olden times, when it was a lot easier to do.

I don't respect people who haven't worked for a living in the real world, or who have never had to make tough decisions before.

- gravyface

I don't normally talk politics but I agree. I don't respect those individuals and I fully believe being a politician shouldn't be a career. I don't understand how you can represent "the people" when you've never walked a day in their shoes.
