Should have taken Caulfield - corduroy
That's an easy game to play, for every franchise, and don't stop there, we should've take either of Heiskanen, Makar or Pettersson in 2017 instead of Patrick as well. And then there's that Tage Thompson guy in 2016, and to a lesser degree Alex DeBrincat in round 2.
Not to mention Shea Theodore in 2013 instead of Samuel Morin, John Carlson instead of Luca Sbisa in 2008, Jamie Benn instead of JVR in 2007, Duncan Keith instead of Joni Pitkanen in 2002, anyone instead of Maxime Quellet in 1999, need I go on? |

Those early OT stops by Binnington. Holy Smokes.
Tremendous tournament. So intense and passionate. - PT21
Binnington was awesome in the Championship game. Extremely impressive. All these guys get 1 day off and back to work on Saturday, kind of crazy.

Wonder how long it will take before people turn on MM and say he didn’t live up to expectations? His play has fallen off quite a bit in the second half.

This is as expected for a 20 year rookie in the NHL. |

Congrats to Sanheim for winning and playing a bigger role that most would have anticipated. - Sublime55
I noted Sanheim started the OT for Canada. |

Or taken Rantanan or Werenski over Provorov. The thing is, you can play this game with EVERY NHL team. Its not isolated to the Flyers. THat is why relaying solely on the draft is not a winning strategy. |

Exactly, this rings true for EVERY NHL franchise. The draft is extremely important and one of the main tools you need to excel at, but it's only one tool of many you need for success. |

I didn't state that any poster did! I am just stating, what may be obvious to some, that to build a championship team you have to embrace all avenues, the draft, free agency and good ol' fashioned hockey trades. With that said I still believe the Flyers best route is to get into the top 5 of this draft and get a center. |

My feeling on Cam York is i don't mind him as a player but if needed I would use him as a piece to bring back a legit center if needed.
When i look at Sanheim, York and Drysdale...I see three defenseman that are not overly offensive and not super defensively. Can they skate...sure. But I wish there was some difference in there games. I actually think there can be more in Drysdale from the offensive side and he has been pretty good since coming back from injury.
If someone wants York I think I would be good moving him if it got me a center who could be that number one.
Also the play of Andrae I think eases what you lose in York and as a rebuilding team I am not sure I want to tie up big money and term in York along with what Sanheim gets.
Just my feelings so others may disagree - J35Bacher
What center though could York bring back? It’s easy to say trade York for a center but he is an undersized left handed defenseman who leans more on the defensive side of the game than the offensive side. Not the type of player that is in demand around the league. |

While this is true for the most part - there is some other things that tie CC and york -- The Flyers traded down a few spots and still passed on him -- the Pravda media, and NUMEROUS posters on this site told us that the flyers actually did a smart thing cause we got york AND brink - the bobby brink that has scored less goals in his career than CC has this season -- for a team that has been starved for offense for the better part of this decade
defend the team at all cost -- I don't care - but in the grand scheme of things they, as usual, picked the wrong player |

instead of overachieving last year, which you were totally down with, they should have traded everyone on an expiring contract and drafted top 5 instead of in the teens. They should do the same thing again, but wont, and they will draft in the teens again
wash rinse repeat -- next season will be year 14 of the retool |

I'm not defending their incompetence, I'm just saying it's not outside the norm for ALL teams to miss the right guy in every draft, every draft.
I mean, look at John Carlson in Washington, 23 teams passed on him, some of them twice. He's been an amazing find for Washington. Flyers got Giroux at #22 and he's the leading point guy from the 2006 NHL draft. Should've won the Hart in 2018. 20 teams passed on him, LA twice, before Clarke messed up his name at the podium. |

Does anyone have any thoughts on the sudden reversal by Jon Cooper to replace Konecny for the championship game ? This was not a good look for TK, supposedly our best player replaced by a 23 year old middle 6 player from Carolina. All reports during the week had TK in the starting lineup, then a late change the morning of the game.

This coaching staff has coached the offensive side of his game right out from him. He was supposed to be a PP contributor. |

There certainly are. And constantly missing on the draft, especially when you go against the consensus and pick "Flyers Type Players" over and over, really makes them over reliant on those other facets, such as signing and trading.

They cant attract high end guys so they will need to overpay for the next tier or 2 down. It will be par for the course. He has never broke 50 points.
If he is smart he takes less to stay. Obviously depends how much Florida offers and what a desperate team like the Flyers offer. If he is all about the money then he is likely gone. |

This is what I cant comprehend. There has been no winning. Not even close to winning. Yet they insists on this type and model. It is really baffling. |

The Flyers have serious trouble recognizing high end offensive defensemen. Even without the coaching not sure he would have been a PP contributor. It’s the one position they will have to luck into in the draft. I think they can cobble together everything else. |
