Go ask an Islanders fan. If you watch him he sucks and can not defend.
I don't care about plus minus
He will be overpaid and I want zero part of him. Let another team be dissipointed. - Santo_44
I will ask them in fact, they would be the informed opinion on this.
You not caring about something is your prerogative but it doesn't make it a meaningless stat if you take it into context.
The kid is barely 25 years old and a 6'4 200lbs Canadian RHD - not sure it's time to write him off.
Remember that young RHD man that was a Leaf eons ago that they shipped out after 3 seasons because he sucked and went on to win 2 cups and is in the discussion at TDL today?
Here is a hint his name rhymes with Puke Fenn.

Schenn was the 7th d on those teams. He's a good depth guy, but he played 11 games in 2019/2020 and 8 in 2020/2021. He'd be fine, but at this point they have his Mexican non-union equivalent in Simon Benoit. |

I'd take Dobson on my team in a heartbeat.
One "meh" season doesn't erase the last three years of him being very, very good.
I don't talk with Islanders fans that much, but I'm pretty convinced almost every team in the NHL is currently hoping to find a guy just like him on the right side of their defense.

Agreed all I was really saying it's a bit much to say a 25 year old RHD sucks based on his age, the team he currently plays for and when his stats don't seem to say the same.

If anyone wants to see what Islanders fans think of him go to the Islanders blog comments where I asked and there are 2 answers so far.
So far after reading what fans who watch all the Islanders games are saying if the Leafs could get him I'd be happy with that get.
Islanders fans seem more ticked with Brock Nelson lately from reading their blog comments - saying he's a guy with no finish in the big games (like 4 nations). When reading that some may say it sounds like he's already a Leaf?
The laughter hides the tears. |

Went over and checked the answers, yeah, Dobson will be alright. - Scabeh
The kid is just that - a kid. He turned 25 last month and is a big Canadian RHD - the thing it seems like every GM wants in the off season, trade deadline, at the draft etc.
Dads - teach your kids to shoot right handed AND convince them being a D man is way cooler than a Centre! lol

As a person who lived through the LS drama, I feel you. I also was angry at the time that they drafted a guy that they said to our (frank)ing faces at the time had the upside of "Chris Phillips" at 5th overall. Like, at least lie to me. |

I understand what you are saying and agree with Dobson point.
But Schenn was like the 6th/7th D on those teams...not a really a stand out player.
Edit: i see this was already brought up and replied to. All good |

I was trying to say was that giving up on a barely 25 year old RHD who is a big Canadian kid rarely works out and isn't a risk I'd take as a GM. Luke Schenn was the example of the Leafs doing just that.
D men don't hit their potential at 25 - at least not most of the time. |

Those teams were (frank)ing deep though. Hedman, Sergachev, McDonaugh...I can't remember their 4th but Schenn wasn't needed to play a key role. I think he had top 4 in him for sure if need be.
