Sipping some Chivas. Cheers bud. While I'm not cuban I have somewhat made it my second home. I go twice a year for 2 or 3 weeks each time. I'm not a snob to Cohibas and Monte Cristo but RJ is my fave. Currently puffing Cohiba Siglo. - systemtool

Oh maximum ice was horrific! There sure were some bad beers back then......
Laker wasn't the worst by any means - Steelback was horrific and was part of the D'Angelo brands.
Frank D'Angelo who owns that brand may be a name Leaf fans say "Why do I know that name"??? The answer is he tried to get out of a deal with a former Leaf great (Mike Zigomanus) who was supposed to be paid 50K per year for 4 years for being a sponsor to the super popular "Cheetah" Energy Drink (yes the one Ben Johnson was a spokesperson for).
Zigomanus sent pics of his junk to his GF who apparently posted them on line on some US based website for jilted lovers. lol

He's so elite that he literally got bored with overtime and just wanted to end it, so he did. It was a thing of sublime magnificence.

Not a bad deal for Florida to get Jones. He now has a cap hit similar to morgan.....ugh morgan.
2.6m retained for the hawks wont be anything in 2 years time.....apparently.
Jones only wanted to go to Florida or dallas.
He was never gonna be a leafs - Fakepartofme
I like the deal for Florida, 7 mil will be good value with a cap pushing 100
Would be nice for the Leafs to make a deal for a player with term (like they did with Mccabe)

He was really good against the leafs in the play in playoff thing with Columbus. I’m sure he’ll be really good again playing with a good team.
Also I haven’t checked the standings to closely lately but I figured the leafs would start separating themselves with this win streak since the break. Nope…. Florida has won 3 straight and tb has won 8 straight. Crazy

I'm holding my disgust until Friday night just in case Reaves and Patches come down with some kind of 6-7 week injuries. |

I don’t hate it as much as the other ones. I think he’s legitimately hurt after watching that 4 nations. Saying that I’m sure he’ll be in the lineup game 1. |

I don't think anyone would question Patches going on LTIR - even when he's wearing a Leafs uniform.
As for Reaves, just waive him. Nobody will claim him.
From the Athletic:
3. Waive Ryan Reaves
The only surprising thing about this one is he’s this far down the list.
Reaves recently turned 38, making him the sixth-oldest forward in the league, and Friday’s game in New York was his first game in weeks. Reaves has averaged just 7:45 ice time per game this season, playing 34 games, scoring no goals and recording two assists, 14 shots on goal and one fight.
He’s become a popular figure in the dressing room, however, and Treliving did give him a three-year deal in free agency two years ago. Plus, coach Craig Berube played a similar role late in his career and values what Reaves does.
If they need to free up some cap space painlessly, however, they could waive Reaves’ $1.35 million contract and get $1.15 million in relief by demoting him to the minors. (Or clear the whole thing if another team claims him.)
Then recall him whenever injuries hit or once the cap lifts to start the playoffs.
Projected available cap space with only Reaves demoted: $2.03 million
Projected available cap space with all three of Reaves, Dewar and Robertson gone: $4.05 million

I would bet my house he's in the lineup for game 1.
It's time the Leafs abuse the system - it's the only way the NHL plugs this gaping hole in the CBA. |

This is Mirtle's take on what the Leafs should do to free up capspace for the deadline:
Send Reaves down, trade Timmins and Robertson.
The glaringly obvious is that now we have Jarnkrok making 2.1M on the 4th line and while I think he'd be fine there, does this -- and the room created -- really land us any players to make us better? |

Ya, I was just being cute.
If the Leafs are looking at adding a 3C and a RHD then they've got lots of wiggle room. In those Mirtle numbers their are 15F and 7D so they're already one above necessity/allowance.
If they are adding pretty modest 3C and D (eg. Gourde, with retention and a chep D) options then they can make room by swapping/dropping Dewar and Timmins. Basically any Centre under 3M they can add easily.
If they're going for bigger tickets (eg. Schenn or Risto) then someone like Domi and/or Kampf would need shipped out.
All of the options are on the table.

The obvious pipe dream players are ROR, Rantanen, Cozens, Tuch and I will even move Nelson into this category because Lou is an idiot.
Realistic ones that can actually move the needle are Schenn, Laughton, Risto.
Then there are the meh they might help here but need to be plugged in first list in Evans, Armia, Bjugstad, Donato, Savard, ect. |

one injury to one of the Key D (like now with Tanev), and they have Timmons, Benoit and Myers all in at the same time. not great.
I still dont know what to make of this team. very meh underlying stats.

I hear you broseph, that's why if we're doing anything, it has to be D help unless Hockey Paw is making a miraculous return.
The forward group, like a 3C is a nice-to-have given our cap constraints, but all you have to do is watch Benoit/Timmins out there together and it's immediately obvious. |

I am expecting some sort of depth addition like Edmondson where double retained he was around 600K in cap space. Maybe Brazeu? Mirtle left out that sort of cap gymnastics. If they find two players like that then it creates a lot of space. I have mentioned Toropchenko in a Schenn trade as well.
If they find the right C they will move Domi or Kampf if needed. I think Tre would like Mccaron over Kampf if they wanted to make room.
Mirtle's articles are always too simple when he does this. |

Meh, I just think tinkering with the forward group shouldn't be the priority at all when the backend looks atrocious without Tanev.
Our 3rd line has been good and Kampf, everyone's fav punching bag, just quietly plays an effective 4C/PK role getting zero OZ time and doesn't ask for anything in return. |
