a 1st if its for players with term. or they can 100% sign
not for rentals - senstroll
Over the next few years or sooner, Leafs’ biggest need will be a 2C. I don’t see how they address that at the TDL. If they can add a good piece on D or a reasonably priced rental, do it. Save your bullets for the off-season when there’s clarity about Mitch and JT. |

That is a big concern. There is already talk in Philly circles about Laughton not being a true center, or at best being a 4C. The focus really needs to be on the D for now.
Parayko, anyone?!? |

I think we are past the worry about years down the road. Leafs need to push in and try to (frank)ing win this thing. it doesnt get easier or their chances dont get better when the core ages and leaves. |

I agree ...I'm not interested in overvaluing our futures ....get the pieces that give you the best chance to win over the next 3 years.
That doesn't mean throw poop around for nothing but it means I'd rather spend a 1st and Cowan for a legit top 4 Dman (say Parayko) then I would spend a 3rd rounder on Luke Schenn or some other similar depth guy.
But just to contradict myself - it sounds like it could be Laughton for a 1st vs. Gourde for a 2nd type of choice. I don't love Laughton like some so I might prefer a cheaper option like Gourde.

He'd be so much better but I think Tree always draws a line in the sand when it comes to giving up 1sts + for rentals.
Gourde and Tanev (with retention) .....somehow just feel like future Leafs. |

I agree with this except for the fact the options right now really are not great at the deadline. I'm more of the mind of adding more of a depth type C, like Gourde, and a depth D rather than wasting the few bullets we have on a not so great addition just for the sake of doing so. |
